I tried using the search feature and didn't find much. What is involved in getting an old camm 1 to cut from X5 on Win7. Cable adapter and what else, driver available?

I'm cutting from X3 on Win 7 32 bit to my 16 year old Camm 1 (a PNC900)and use a USB adapter to the the cutter's parallel input.
Unfortunately, Roland does not make a driver that works with Win 7 and wants to sell me a new plotter. The folks at Roland told me it's not worth it to write a driver for Win 7. So I have an XP partition that I use just for cutting.

Tim, I'm just trying to help my son decide. He's got an ancient computer and an equally ancient Camm 1. He's wanting to get a new computer and not have to go through a bunch of B.S. to get. I've got X3 I could give him. If the aren't supplying drivers for Win 7 it might make more sense for him to buy a refurbed unit with XP.

George there are drivers out there that work with most if not all of the versions of windows if ya go to rolands site and download them,...as for the plotter ya can't kill an old roland they work just as good with windows 7 as they did with windows3.1. I know Joe(OP) and or Dave Grundy have step by steps for cutting straight from corel draw somewhere on the helps and tips link and or the step by step links here.

George...For what it's worth...I believe Roland stopped developing drivers for older cutters, (PNC 1000/1100 and before) with Win XP.
They do have drivers for later cutters for Win Vista and 7.
Before I retired I was using Win XP with Corel X3 and a CX 24 cutter.
If I were still in the business I would be using Win 7 with Corel X5 and buying a current Roland cutter. In fact I would be investing in a large format printer cutter.
(I know, easy to say when I am not about to do it!!! )

Interesting Michael. When I first set up his current rig ( a PNC 1100 on win ME, the 100 driver didn't work but the 960 did
I'm not sure at this point what way he's going to go but if he decides to buy a Win 7 computer and run the plotter off the old unit, I may play try my X3 and a CX 24 driver.

I'm rolling with a CAMM 1 (GX 24 driver), Corel X5 and Windows 7 OS. For the simple stuff, I set them up in X5, convert to curves when needed, copy, and paste into Dr. Stika Plus version 2.21.
Here's a link to the software and driver pages for Roland
Hope this helps... Rapid
