Hey, Tony Severenuk (or any other Corel experts) while we got your attention, I have a few questions about Corel X5.

First Question: Some times when we go to edit a line or two of text and you select that text with the Text Tool, the text seems to hop up a half a line and over a bit, so it makes it difficult to highlight the letters or words that you want. For example I try to highlight the "e" in the word "Corel" and I accidentally select the "r" instead. Have you heard of that before? and id so, is there a fix for that?

Second Question: When I export a jpg, after I select where and what file name, it takes me to the screen where I can change the sizes and quality of my bitmap, But it takes for ever and a day for that preview to render, and every time I make a change to let's say the height or the resolution, it has to wait for it to render the preview again. I've got a fast machine (2.6 GHz quad core with 8 GB of ram), but it still seems slow. You multiply that by the all the images I export in a day, and it's noticeable. It takes me much longer to export things in X5 than it ever did in X3.

Is there a way I could simply turn off the preview? Would that speed things up you think?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Joseph!

I've never seen that problem with the text caret (cursor) before...can you email me a file that shows the issue (pls embed the fonts). It might be related to some paragraph spacing, horizontal shifts on individual characters. Please fire it over to tony.severenuk@corel.com.

The Export JPEG dialog preview is a bit slow in X5. Two things I can think of.....first, make sure you have the latest SP as there were speed fixes in SP1 and SP2. Second, the dialog takes the document resolution as the default export resolution. If you're doing large format signs you probably don't need 300 dpi in the Jpeg...try changing the document resolution from the Page Setup dialog to 150 dpi and I'm sure you'll find the performance much better.

T.

Yeah, I ran into the text issue a while back when my computer was using the onboard video card. I upgraded to a better card and that seemed to resolve the issue.

Thanks Tony. You are the man. I'll try what you suggested and send you the file.
So far it says no updates are available. I have Version 15.2.0.661 and I think I have my default set to 72 dpi. I do a lot of website work too, so when I am exporting .jpgs, most of the time it is for websites. When I'm exporting things for sign work, we export eps, and tiffs. Interesting enough, exporting tiffs is a breeze and is as fast as it has ever been.
