I have to wonder what OS your are running Illustrator on too! Historically, I have had very few freeze ups with Illustrator on my Mac and I am only running 4 gigs of RAM. Since I upgraded to CS2 at home I have had more "issues" with Photoshop than Illustrator. So I hope to upgrade, soon myself...but i'm not to excited about using CS5!
I also rarely if ever get a low memory warning...at home. But I have got them running CS5 on a PC at work. They just added a biy more RAM and that seemed to help a bit.

I use the Adobe CS3.3 Master Collection for Mac- I have had Illustrator crash on me a couple of times, but never on a consistant basis. No problems with any of the other programs in the suite, though. I had a few issues with an earlier CS2, but I worked around them.
I bought CS3.3 for a substantial discount right after CS4 was released. I mainly use Illustrator, PS, Flash and InDesign- but there are some other useful programs in the Master Collection.
I use the CorelDRAW X3 suite on the Dell- running on a pretty stable XP- I have used it for years and it has been really solid, except for the couple of times I had computer memory issues- then I started getting a bunch of the crashes like mentioned above.
I really like the way DRAW, PAINT, TRACE all work together seamlessly- a process that I use daily in T-shirt art.
I also loaded it on my MacBook- through Parallels- and it worked very well on the Mac

Corel X3 wasn't designed specifically to work with Windows 7. Corel X5 was. Instead of upgrading to X5, create a second partition on your drive and install XP onto it, the operating system it WAS designed for. That should clean up instability issues.
Dual Boot.
Hope this helps... Rapid

X3 runs perfect on all my win 7 machines. The office, the lappy, the shop. I have never heard much of a problem with X3 on any win 7 machine until I read about it here.

Am currently trying out a trial corel X5 on mac parallels win 7 pro, 8 gig ram. Runs a little jittery, (???) but no failures so far. Wonderful features though, I'm LOVING it!

I use CS3 on both of my Macs with no issues either PhotoShop or Illustrator.
I can hardly wait to try it out on the new hotrod Mac laptop that arrives next week!
