A few months ago I installed a multi part sign. Between the posts at the top is a sandblasted redwood sign. Below that Is a box with glass that slides in tracks that houses one of those changeable message boards, the type with the slots that letters with tabs press into.
I got a call recently from customer saying that the sun heats the panel and the slats seem to weld together and eat the tabs off the letters and she needs to spend considerable time with tweezers removing the tabs that have seperated from the letters.
This is happening with winter sun.
She is wondering if there is a way to get magnetic letters and cover the slat board with sheet metal?
Any helpful ideas will be appreciated.

Hi Rick. Gerber does make a magnetic material specifically for printing on their Edge, and it is also designed to be cut on their plotters. They are sprocket-fed and I don't think that a friction-fed plotter would perform effectively, especially if the magnetic material has any contact with a ferrous surface of any type. ( It would try to grip ).
However, if you recall, many of the complaints regarding magnetic material revolved around the material sticking to the painted surfaces of vehicles, sometimes to the point where they'd ruin the paint, and couldn't be removed without destroying the magnetic material.
I'm tending to think that a high heat, closed atmosphere would promote this type of problem even more.
However, if her changeable message board background is black, that's probably the source of the problem. Black attracts and retains heat. If you've ever gotten into a car with black vinyl seats in the summer, you'll know the effect. Changing the background to white with black snap-in letters will probably cure the malady.
