Recently I've been sending monthly mailshots to my customers some current but many who might not have bought from me for many years. Ive learned in this climate, there is little loyalty, and everyone is pricing. In the past week, I pulled in five jobs from lates mailshot, amounting to three weeks work. The one thing they all have in common, is they had all been dealingnelsewhere and I'm confident I wouldn't have got one of them. I would have had a poor month of March but now all is well

I have found the best way to drum up new work is to get some face time with clients you haven't heard from in a while... it only takes a few minutes to drop in and say HI and let them know they are important enough for a personal visit. Use their services too... businesses will often only do business with people who do business with them.

Several years ago, I think it was Mike Jackson in a SignCraft article who showed some samples of postcards he made up. I wish SignCraft would reprint the article or Mike Jackson could do an updated one.

Declan, each month I highlight a different aspect of the business. For example, in January I highlighted signage on trucks and vans as that would be a period of high sales here. i offered a 10% discount for anyone who received the mail shot. This month, it's banners and correx signs for Patricks Day parades here. I include two or three photos and links to website. I emphasize the fact we are 27 years in the business as that puts me one up on the newbies flogging their stuff

Kevin, Thats interesting,so you suit your mailshot to seasonal requirments,that makes a lot of sense. The physical mailshot itself,is it an e-mail with links or printed matter with photos? Thanks for your time in answering.

Declan, it's a PDF containing photos and info. When sending, i send myself a copy and bcc it to the customers I'm mailing. That way, when they receive it, only their own mail address appears. Looks a little more personal that way.
