I talked to "Enn" this afternoon. She is safe and sound. So is her mother Maggie, who is is a very talented artist. Spent a lot of time with them both at two Kiwi Letterheads Meets. Fortunately the house is undamaged and sill has power and water.
Anne had to walk home from work at lunchtime because of the the road damage. They are still getting aftershocks up to 5 on the scale every hour!
Death toll is rising,a lot people trapped in the rubble.
Australia sent a C130 load of medical supplies and specialist Search and Rescue Teams, including sniffer dogs tonight. Another load goes in the morning.

Thanks everyone for your words. We were all told to stay at home today so Mum and I went into the local supermarket and helped to clean up. We're all sufferring from sleep deprivation. The phone calls and texts didn't stop until about half past midnight and then we got a 5.5 quake at 3am which woke us all up. Physically I feel pretty good, I hurt my back and my feet when I got thrown off the trestles but I'll heal up ok. Emotionally I'd have to say I'm a mess. Lots of deep breaths required. The temptation to get on a plane and take off is very high. Wish I had the bank account to support the thought!!!
I don't know how the rental property I have in town has fared. I hope the elderly tenant is ok.
My family and my partners family are all ok. All of my friends are fine too. The big issue now is water and sewerage. It's going to be tough living here for a while.
Putting a smile on my face whenever possible. All of your kind thoughts help so much

Luckily I'm in Auckland, far away from Christchurch but there is huge amounts of support from the kiwis. I'm aware that several fellow letterheads suffered in the earlier quake in September and trust they are all OK. Been glued to the TV news all day and still can't believe what I'm seeing. Although parts of New Zealand is on major fault line, Christchurch (like Auckland) has been considered safe. http://www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/

I've been glued to the news stations, Anne, my prayers go out to you and your country, as I've met a few great Kiwi's when I was in Queensland. It's a tough thing to watch and not be able to come over to help.

Death toll is up to a hundred and there are at least 250 more missing, feared dead. We're starting to hear stories from friends and workmates who know people that haven't come home. It's too depressing for words and becoming harder each day to find something to smile and laugh about. Glad I've got a well stocked liquor cabinet

What an awful experience to have. Hang in there, girl. Although your world has been rocked, day by day it will get easier.
