So, here we sit waiting for the blizzard of 2011. Looks like it will affect 1/3 of the USA, plus a good portion of Canada will be really really cold. The east coast is gonna get it again

Rick...we've been following it on TV and internet. I'll be calling friends and relatives in Ontario tomorrow to see how they are faring. I am sure that our friends and my brother will have gone shopping and stocked up on essentials like beer and whiskey and wine!!!!
Glad we're not there now. 93F here today and gentle south winds.
Stay safe Rick!!

11 inches of snow and 40 mph winds. The snow is even sticking to the windows. Then we get sub zeros next. Not exactly weather to go out and paint showroom winders.
Holed up with Gracie, the pup and a big stack of firewood. Replaced the kitchen faucet, repainted some cabinets, banged out some design work for upcoming projects and even managed to get another 20 16x48 coreplast signs painted for windshields. Now the Kansas Jayhawks are decimating Texas Tech. Good day to stay in! Leave for St. Martens soon, so some warm weather is definitely in my plan.

Northeast New Jersey has had a snow storm every week for seven weeks in a row. The first snowfall is still on the ground. Now it is all coated with ice. As a skiier I have always liked snow, but this is too much. Snow is plowed up 3 and 4 feet high along the roads. Bill

I made it to town at 6am. It's like a ghost town. 12-14 inches of snow everywhere. Most businesses and all schools are closed. It is still snowing and now the bitter north winds have started. Guess I'll be staying in the studio today. n

While that's a regular occurance around here, we have adapted and have the abilities to deal with the winds and snow. It sure has an effect on those places that aren't used to it. I feel bad for them....well all of them except Neil, who has tormented me all winter with his "beautiful day" stories.

So far our part of Texas has just been cold and windy but no moisture. Right now it is 16F with a wind chill of 0...but dry. We've lost power a few times but all is up and running right now.
I can't imagine what you folks further north are experiencing. It must be tragic.

I don't know how much we got. We already had snow on the ground. I'm guessing somewhere between 1-2 ft. The drifts are extreme. At least the winds have died down. They were scary -- and what's with the lightning and thunder!!! I thought that came with rain only.
I had to shovel out a path for my little weiner dog so she could go potty. We took the day off and are resceduling work for this weekend. Jane and I are about ready for a movie and I'll do some home designing later. We quit about 3 yesterday afternoon and made it across town to our home.
Jane said there was a nut on a motorcyle across the street last night. I thought he deserves to get wacked by a snow plow.

It's freezing rain here, and frankly it's upsetting. I'd rather it be cold and snow, at this point I'd like to see how high the snow banks can get In reality snow is making roofs collaps, There was a death in our town Monday where a roof collapsed when a man was shoveling off the snow. I took approx 20 some inches off the back roof of my shop I'm guessing, Monday night. So this weeks warm up will be a relief. As long as we don't get 3 days of rain in a row

My son decided to visit friends last night and took off from my daughter's (his sister;s) house where he has been staying temporarily. He recently moved back from Florida and wasn't realizing getting stuck in the deep drifts.
He did about midnight and I had been tracking him on his cell phone for my mother's intuition kicked in all day and night visualizing him getting caught in a certain stretch of the road at the entrance of my daughter's neighborhood.
He did get stuck and finally he reached a friend who owns a plow, and fortunately the friend traveled almost 18 miles through the blizzard; they plowed the entire 1/2 mile of road to my daughter's house and her driveway. The drifts made the snow to her house 5 feet high, so there was no way for him to get from his car to her house on foot.
Thank God, and now I guess I can go back to sleep. I think he is a bit wise for the experience.

Bill, I was looking at the weather graphic on Google Earth last night and saw a thunderstorm cloud icon over Pontiac. I wondered what was up with that. There was one over Des Moines too.

I just dropped my brother off at the airport. He's flying Alaska Air and his flight was canceled yesterday. I figured they'd know how to fly in this stuff--they sure claim to know how to drive in it.
We did see folks with Packer and Steeler jerseys coming into the airport. In our good ol' Texas hospitality, we greeted them with the same weather they were fleeing up north--snow, ice, wind, 13 degrees, wind chills well below zero. The only snow plow in our area is at DFW airport and I'm sure it was put to use the last couple days.
Since we just don't see snow blowers in front of Walmart around here, I think the franchise will be wide open if one of you frozen Yankees wants a business opportunity.

My Birthday, I remember we were suppose to play Golf and it was cancelled.. but a few days later, back up into the low 70's... how weird is that?

Have about 8 inches on the ground from this one, it's still coming down at a pretty steady clip of about 1/2"/ hour and there's 3 feet of the white stuff on my back porch.
Suppose to keep snowing throughout the night.

We got about another foot today. Drifting, big flakes. All the roads all the way up the Bruce Penninsula are closed.(About an hour and a half) My one daughter is about an hour and a half south of here and her University (Waterloo) is closed. The other daughter is southwest two hours and they still have college (London). But they deserve a break. Last month she drove home, parked her car. Storm came up and completely covered her car. It was four feet deep. She drives a Sunfire. Parked beside a hedge hoping she wouldn't have to sweep off as much and the wind changed direction. So now she went out and bought a shovel like her Mom told her to. So yeah, we got snow. But we been lucky so far, storms only once a week or so and nothing has lasted more than maybe a day and a half. There has not been any major power outages or anything. No freezing rain, thank you Lord.
If I could post a pic I would. But right now I am not going through that. Anyway they are calling for more tonight, but I don't think we really got it too bad. Not any worse than the last month or so.
edited to add "There, there now Kelly, does that make you feel better? The rest of Canada is not in BALMY Nfld!

We got about 2 feet of snow with wind gusts up to nearly 60 mph at times....made for quite the night. I tried to open my front door at about 10 pm last night....now I know why it wouldn't open. For tonight we get to enjoy some -25 to -35 F wind chills.
I remember our place looking like that, as I am sure it is looking tonight to the new owners.
"Thanks for the memories"!!!
Three years snow free and in shorts here. (It's the price of old age but it is working for us!!!)LOL
