Well, the sign was finished one year ago and the city installed it recently. All was done by hand with the help of a good friend. I learned a lot on this and am great for the help I received. It is double-sided, cedar, gold and one shot. As always I see things I would change but I am satisfied overall. I am open to all comments as I have a lot to learn. The truck...I finally got something on my own truck and again I would do things differently, but I smile thinking about this as I had to take the canopy off and let air out of the tires to pull it into my garage. My house was built in 1917 with a low ceiling basement and garage. I did this with about 1.5' between the truck and the garage wall with poor lighting and laughed most of the way through. Compound curves are a new experience for me.

Only thing I might change, wold be to make the sky and water different colors, to try and make the top of the steamboat "pop" better. No biggee.
It's a real nice job; all of it.

(I think in hindsight, I'd like to have the doorhandle of the truck painted white so you don't notice it. Then maybe the lettering could be lifted up an inch and a quarter...)
Nice design work!

Truck is awesome, sign is less impressive. Too much light blue not much dimension in the art itself. Not much depth

I added a different view of the sign above. I was shocked at how shallow the blasting was. I appreciate all the comments everyone! On the truck those corners did not come out clean. I was using Oracal 751 with a hair dryer. I am assuming there is a more appropriate vinyl for curves and not all technique?
Yes I agree with more contrast on the blues too.
I really appreciate the feedback I have so much to learn.

Great work on both accounts, you should be proud of your self!

as a matter of fact he did ask for comments, my comments were expressed. I saw too much blue on it. The lettering and border design are great maybe some shades of darker blue in the horizon and darker shading under mountains, no biggie
I apologize to letterville this post brought outside sources to speak their mind. Now lets all return to our regularly scheduled programming

(Mark, that was the third line of the first post by Bruce.)
I would still make the doorhandles white-either paint, or wrapped in HP cast vinyl- so your focus heads even more to the text & business name!

Mark, I find that one of the beauties of Letterville is these genuine crtitques, from which we can all learn to improve layouts- both present & future ones. It is always a great education.

Bruce...one of the purposes of Letterville is to help each other...I want to learn from what others say...and I think your the same...I see the tremendous painting talent displayed on your site...and I always enjoy seeing your wonderful portraits...particularly the animals...I don't see that exceptional talent in this piece...this is a good sign don't get me wrong...and being the first time I know your proud of it and the things you learned...but with your talent it could have been an exceptional sign...where is that fabulous painting style...I love the truck but bring that wonderful painting talent you have to your signs ...you could put us all to shame...I'm not just saying that...it's true...you are an exceptional talent...your web site portfolio is phenomenal.

Bruce...I just gotta add...in spite of the mild scolding I gave...this is a nice sign...great shape...border...lettering...and looks like it's hugh...and that's no small thing...many a signman would be proud...as you should be.

Rusty, I always admire your work and appreciate yoour reply. Now, what would that look like to you? Please let me know I would love to see more of what I'm not seeing and in time I could bring it about. Also, I choke on painting inanimate or non-organic subject matter. The boat was a real struggle for me.(REAL STRUGGLE!) I would much rather have painted a whole zoo of animals easily over that boat.

Hi Bruce. I agree with Rusty about bringing your painting talents to your sign work. To apply that thinking to the sign you posted, imagine how the sign would have looked if you had've hand rendered the picture rather than used the vectorized, clipart looking, artwork. I think that would be the difference between a nice looking sign and an outstanding looking sign. I'd bet it would also be the one thing to put you that much further ahead from your competition.

I love the truck, it looks great. The blasted sign looks good, but a few tweaks as posted by the others would have made it even better. Im like you on the blasting depth. Just aint deep enough. Some detail on the mountains and other areas would add to it too. But, it does look good, and Im sure the customer was pleased.

I would like to add that right now I am working on my first city entry-way signs. The design proved far more difficult than I imagined. The message has got to be totally clear and you are designing for a committee. This means that it'll usually be calmed down by committee, quenching your shot at doing no holds barred stuff. 3 commissioners will know several good sign-men. One is related to another and the other two believe strongly that a local shop must be used and your place is in the next county. Great job there BB.

I almost gotcha, Bruce! At first glance, I thought you misspelled "livability". But as it turns out, there are two ways to spell it, and you got one of them.
Just keepin' you straight. Carry on, brother.
