Oh, boy. I have a client here in charge of a national chain needing some banners. The order will be large and so will some of the banners. I can get a price on the bannners from my supplier in S.Cal but they can't figure out pricing until the job is done.... Problem is I need to provide a quote to the customer including shipping as I need to cover my costs. If I could find out how much the banners would weigh I could maybe figure out shipping. 100 banners 4 x 10 100 banners 6 x 20 100 banners 8 x 30 My supplier said they would need to put the 8' banners on a 8' pallet and freight it up to me. Distance will be from S.Cal to Portland, OR.
If any of you can help me get a ballpark on this that would be greatly appreciated.

At First I thought you were sucked in.... but you say it already a client of yours, find out how many you can get out of a roll and figure out the weight that way. Good Luck!

Jeff, I got a quote on a 800 Pound Pallet 4x4x8 I was going to ship and it was $750 from CO to Fla. if that helps.. For something that size I would call Yellow Freight. But you will need the Girth w+h+l=Girth and Weight.
Depending on how far your shipping you might look and see if you have a courier service in your area. I use one out of Denver and it is well worth it.. They pick up my all supplies at Grimco and deliver them to my door for $50 some times in the same day. For $50 it's not worth my time and gas to drive to Denver.

Hi Jeff, A 13 oz banner should weigh 13 ounces per square yard. You can do the math from there. However, you'll have to add extra for grommets, packing etc.

If I figured it right the banner fabric should weigh 277 lbs.

it's 3600+lbs of material for the whole order, but the freight will not be priced out by the weight. Freight companies will want to know how much space on the truck your stuff needs, in which case you need to know how the supplier will be packaging everything. You'll need to err on the safe side and overestimate the cubic volume/floor area when you use LTL (less than truckload) freighters like FedEx Freight.
You could also quote a dedicated truck (aka full truckload - ie your order would be the only thing on it) which would give you a flat rate based on distance. It's more expensive but there are no surprises, like discovering part of your order does not fit on the truck because they miscalculated, and it gets left behind.
Check out TQL - they do all the work finding the right truck (size, etc, so you're not paying for a 53ft flatbed if all you need is a box van) for your shipment. http://totalqualitylogistics.com/

+1 for TQL. We had to have 2000 18"x24" aluminum signs shipped from St. Louis to Montgomery. TQL not only gave us the best price they also put together the fastest shipping using a box van point to point. It was only about $200 more than what it would have cost us to go get them ourselves.
