So 2010 was a strange year in deed! It started a little slow like everybody and gradually picked up as spring arrived.
Then I got busy, but nothing to impress, just jobs to pay the bills... Then July took my dad away from us and then it got quiet again.
As this wavy year was passing us by, Heather saw an add within the government postings, an add for a 'sign-designer' at Parcs Canada right here in town. It was posted for months and Heather caught it the day before it ended. So I applied for fun, you know, benefits, secure pay, etc...
So guess what, after months of waiting, I start this coming Monday at this new challenge. I'll keep the business going as a side-show for smaller stuff and existing accounts but also as a safety net. I've been self-employed for most of my life and I still have to see if I'll like this new job.
I'll still visit here and there the odd time, we'll see how things go.

Ahhhhh, the Parks in Canada are about to become even more beautiful Sounds like a great opportunity to give a whirl. A steady pay check is always nice and being how it is a government job you'll have lots of time off to do your own thing. Congrats!

That sounds great to me. I hope everything works out. Might take a while to get adjusted to not being self employed but a steady paycheck and benefits are a good thing. Sounds like it was meant to be.

There is a beautiful canoe trip that goes through Champlain Park between North Bay and Mattawa. At every portage they had signs and plaques explaining some historical aspect of that location. Many of them have been damaged or destroyed. Maybe I'll see some of your work one of these Summers. Good luck!

Thanks guys, but as I said before, I will keep the shop going at a reduced speed to keep the safety net in order and also to let some of the creative juices flow, the signs overthere will all be the same and the satisfaction level is not expected to be the same.
Live and see as they say, I'll keep you posted from time to time...

Congrats Rene - a little security and steady pay is a good thing, and like you say, you can keep doing the side stuff. You could end up doing very well with this combo gig. Good luck to ya.

Hiya Rene, Congratulations on the new venture and expanding your horizons.
Speaking from experience, adjusting to life in the corporate world will present a whole new set of challenges. At the same time though, it will present many new and potentially exciting learning experiences.
The best advice I could give you is be prepared for long hours and a roller-coaster ride of emotions until you adjust to your new settings.
And trust me, the steady pay and perks/benefits of being an employee will make up for any sacrifices or headaches you (and your family) may endure.
I plan on keeping both "gigs" for as long as my body and brain can handle both.
Havin' fun,
Checkers

Just got back from Vacation and read this, Congrats Renee , I've done plenty of work for Parks Canada over the years, and even though a lot of it is a little stiff in nature, there is plenty of work that is a lot more challenging, even 3-d at times... this will be exciting for you.

Congratulations! If a "government job" where you are is anything like they are here in NJ, then you just hit the jackpot.

Thanks to all, next Monday is starting to come fast! I'll be good enough to come back and talk about it a little.
Haha Bruce I like your comment! Bad news is, get in line, there's a bunch of similar offers on the table already... Good news is, all Letterheads that showed up here so far, got to test drive the ol'boy, so you know what you have to do now!!!
