Awhile back a week or two before the Danville Walldog Meet I posted about an alleyway I have been working on,...well between school and commuting to and from it I only got to work about an average of 3 hrs. a day on the final phase of the project,....well all I can say it has kept me busy after school each day since the meet and I thought I'd share the progress so far,.....its almost done,...
It was somewhat challenging as the longest distance a viewer can get away from it is about 10 feet.
The project also turned into "What if we put this here in this archyway and then put that there?",..remind me to never leave anything to be decided after the fact,...the reason for totally completed layouts,...don't ask me how I came to realize this,....
A local rural scene I did off the top of my head (just sketched it in,.. freehanded and painted it real quick to make the appearance of some sort of progress to the client one Friday)
The view from the far end of the alleyway,....

Actually there are quite a few local winery's in the local area as of late,...its not as proliferated as the Sonoma Valley area but there are several local vinyards in the hill country here in the western foothills,..,.I can remember picking wild grapes as a kid in the hills,...

Man! What a transformation! But to have that done on an Alley Way, seems to be a bit of a waste, especially someone of your talent. But then again, this must be planned for some very high foot traffic.

Neil,..there are several hundred people a week who go thru the alley to get into the pub,...seems the entrance is on a very busy street, with a very narrow sidewalk and most of the regulars use the back entrance,..ie the alleyway,.. it is also the smoking area for the pub and folks can sit and drink their cocktails while enjoying my art,.,...there also has been an increase in foot traffic back there since the mural got started,...folks just walking in to view the art,..,

That is a beautiful mural. I think the layout with stone arches breaks up the long wall and gives the whole mural a nice rythum. Since the alley is so narrow you probably couldn't project anything. Did you have to lay it out freehand or were you able to use patterns of some kind. Thanks for the inspiration.

You gotta love alley art! That is beautiful, Timi! From a nasty (scary looking to me) alley to a restful stroll through the country! GOOD job!

Actually I used patterns for parts of the rows of grapevines and the building in the second and third archway (the trees are feehanded also),..but the rest including the archways is freehand layout.

Very nice Tim......looks like you had some fun. How did you handle the packing up every day. Did you keep your truck loaded with the supplies? Could you drive right up to it? Or did it take a while to set-up each time? I did this same type of job once (115'mural).... 2-4 hours a day. I kept my "pallet of paint" orginized and ready to move in and out of the truck quickly with rolling carts.
