1650 sq ft of insulation, 2000 lbs of rebar, 500 rebar chairs, 1750' of 1/2 pex tubing, 400' of 2x6,1000 zip ties, 1500 rebar ties and 31 cu yds of concrete.
It's great to see dreams start to take place before you. Due to the bizzarre weather this year I got cornered into doing the majority of the work here myself as the men are all out in the field trying to get the crop in. It wasn't my plan or my choice, but with a contractor due to start the building next week it had to be done. I'm hoping my body will forgive me soon!
Today it was great to sit back and watch 6 guys bury what I have spent the past couple of weeks doing! I was so happy when it all held together and turned out good! Hopefully my new Shop/Studio will be built on a good foundation.
I think it's funny that they pumped all the cement over the top of the roof of our house!
It took less than 2 hours for them to bury my two weeks of work.
Now at the end of the day all I have to do is sit back and watch Phase 2 - the framing, siding and roofing happen over the next few weeks. Then over the course of the winter I'll work away at it depending on how my bank balance holds out.
It's wonderful when dreams start to take shape!

That foundation looks as though the shop will be big enough to put your house in it. There is nothing like the good feeling to see your new shop completed. Been there and done that. Good work deserves a good shop. Bill

That will be awesome with the insulated/heated slab, and it looks like the shop will be attached to the house so you won't even have to go outside to go to work !

I remember when I built my shop. It is 25'x35' on concrete with 13' ceilings for big signs. I was only prouder of one thing ever except for the shop and that was the day my daughter was born. you'll find your shop makes you want to be creative. Its your own personal place. Its great.

There were power lines in the way on three sides so they had to go over the roof. It was interesting seeing them work around the antenna.
The in floor heating will be nice and when I had my plumber come check the tubes and fittings for the heating we discussed upstairs heating. He figures that with the in floor heating in the concrete we can heat the upstairs with a two sided gas fireplace which is an idea I love! I'll supplement it with electric baseboard heaters for the odd really cold Saskatchewan winter's day if needed.
The main pad is 30'x50' and the front half will be a garage that will double as shop space for bigger projects when needed. The upstairs will be split into a 25'x30' studio and 25' x 30' common room/gallery/media room/classroom/photography studio/holiday family room.
This is the first step towards reclaiming my identity as an artist. I also plan to install a glass kiln so I can do more glass work.
Feeling pretty fine about my life right now!
