Bob, I guess it didn't get enough attention because we all know the scenario all too well.
Lately, everyone around here seems to be in a race to the bottom, making it more difficult to earn a decent living.
That's ok though because I'm following (I think) Bill Mozdel or Duncan's advice and I would rather go fishing before I work for free.
Havin' fun,

I think pricing is still the most difficult part of this job. Things are always changing from technologies and materials to who your competitors are.Tricky to find the right balance. I appreciate this link Pat.

If your just starting a business, this might be a good read. It does not really translate to the sign business. I can produce the same sign as someone else. Consutling? There's no way to measure that. If two sign companies were given the same spec sheet to follow, how many customers would pay another 50K just to "go with the best"?

Yes there is a problem with prices and low balling. Yes there are desperate cases. But when it got tougher I started tomarket to those who were least affected by the crisis. Granted, I had no where to go but up.
But it is the marketing that pays off. My bizzes are in one of the worst economic areas of the country.
I am busy. Doing all I want and earning enough to be paying plenty extra to finish the mortgage..
So please. Anyone who wants to do better please study marketing the business. Start with learning how to write ad copy. Never mind all the pretty pictures. ITs the marketing words that count.
I just held an open house and wrote over $7 grand in business.

Even when trying to negotiate, point out the value!!! We do give value, and find one or two things that mean something to that customer when pointing those things. Assume the sale and don't be afraid of failing!
