Just watching the news last night and wondered how you folks made out. I guess we shall have to wait until you have electricity again. Have you ever considered, perhaps, moving someplace a little milder? Never mind, I don't even know why I asked.

Milder? What and Leave this Tropical Paradise? This was one if not the worst storm this province has seen in recent memory, I just got my power back this morning at the shop. about 18 inches of rain in less than 24 hours and 180 km winds. I tell you one thing, a lot of Newfoundlanders have been humbled bu good old Mother Nature and her Raw Power she can unleash. But we made it through, and Newfoundlanders are no strangers to Hardship.

I was talking to my parents the last few days. Their house is extremely damaged. They haven't been living in it the past 4 nights. Most of my dads things he had outside floated out to sea. My dad spent the last four years landscaping his yard. I was there over the summer, what an incredible job he did. I helped him install the windows on his new garage as he was building it. Every bit of that work is destroyed. They were basically sitting at home watching TV the night of the storm, then out of the blue, their basement began filling up with water. The river next to their yard swelled into a massive lake and poured into their house. As the house was filling up my mom took her car an tried to drive in the upper section of town. The bridge was gone, she had to turn around and had to take a gravel road around. My dad cut the power to the house and got in the truck, he seen the water pouring into the living room. He followed my mom and they are now staying at a friends house. They cannot begin to clean anything up until the Insurance company shows up. Who knows when that could be, all the roads to town are damaged. the storm was bigger then most people realize. The smaller towns heading out to Bonavista were hit the hardest. It's a bad feeling when you're not ready for it.

Spoken like a true Newfoundlander, Neil. Newfoundland has a raw and rugged beauty that is humbling at the best of times, I can only imagine.....
