I recently took a little excursion this summer to Harrison Hot Springs all by my lonesome while my son was in camp. And it was the perfect spot to do a quiet little artsy photo shoot.
I posted the shoot on my blog. And was soon contacted via twitter. It was suggested I try to enter a Harrison photo contest going on.
So I did.
And this is the email I received today:
Dear Funky Junk'r or is it Donna...?
Happy to report that you have one of 2 grand prizes on our Flickr photo contest for your shot - "Quiet Solitude" at Harrison.
Compact Digital Camera - Nikon Coolpix S640 with 2 GB Memory Card 2 nights Lakeview accommodation Breakfast each morning in The Lakeside Cafe Dinner one night in The Copper Room 2 hour ecotour and photo safari on the Harrison and Fraser Rivers with Harrison Bay Eco Adventures
Donna - let me know where I can send this to and also would like to use your shot and show it as the winner on our website and Facebook page.
Congratulations!
This is my entry, 'Quiet Solitude.'
Oh my GOSH!!
For so many reasons, this trip means the world to me. First and foremost, I'm finally recognized for something I LOVE to do. Photograph. I'm just floored.
Not to mention, my heart belongs in this beachside resort and we've longed to hotel it there rather than camp. And now we have the most amazing opportunity. With a photo op boat tour to boot!

Way to go girl!!! It's wonderful to be recognized for excelling in the things we are passionate about. Don't let that new camera stand in your way of a DSLR though. That's a whole other world to explore and your photographic eye deserves one! Enjoy your well deserved holiday.

Ohhhh ho ho Kelly... that is so on the high end of my list. I will join your club as soon as it's feasible! Count on it. And I'll even write a workshop on it when I do. No fear here...
Thanks for the kudos, everyone! The clouds outside are not bothering me in the least today.

Congratulations Donna! Well deserved and not surprising to me. While nicer equipment in the future will make your job easier having the eye and passion to succeed and excel will take you far further!
Just remember I knew you when you were just Donna.

Nice work, Donna. The artist in you is shown by the composition of your photos.
My family used to always rag on me for the sheer number of pictures I took until I sold some to the Houston Chronicle for an article they were running on Big Bend National Park. I could tell them I was now a "professional" photographer.

Congratulations to an amazing lady. You have earned and deserve every accolade that may come your way. If more people lived their lives by your example, I feel this would be a far better world to live in. Thanks for being you. Don't ever stop. Peace. Don

Congrats! Very nice shots! It's always nice to be rewarded while enjoying a Hobby. I know how you must feel after winning a complete 3d Helmet cam video package for some of my dumb Quad riding excursions last year. It's just the iceing on the cake that makes it all worth while. Good job!
