does anyone know of a trade show coming up close to or in North Carolina. I'm near Wilmington, NC. thats near the NC and SC state line. on the coast 15 minutes from the beach. I went to one in Charlotte, NC and loved it. I really need to go to one so I can get caught up on all these new machines and software. Does anyone know of one coming up?

Sign Business Magazine (National Business Media) will be in Charlotte the first week in November.

Like Rick says, we'll be in Long Beach on Wednesday...but that may be a long drive for you.

Going to a trade show is a great way to see various machines in action. But remember, all those guys are going to have their machines tuned to the max and running perfectly. Here's a good example. My Artcam reseller has the exact same cnc that I have. I bought mine after a pretty fair amount of research, but not knowing anywhere near what my reseller knows. He spent 3 days tuning up his machine, I spent a few hours as I learned stuff. The other day he sent me a test file that he built and ran on his machine. Total routing time was just a little over 8 minutes. My motor tuning which includes speed and acceleration is set the same as his machine, yet the same file took 12 minutes and 20 seconds to cut on my machine.

Just do as much homework as you can before you go so you will have a better idea of what questions to ask. If you go by what the sales reps say alone, you'll be more confused when you leave than when you got there. Be prepared for all the stepper motors vs. servos, rack and pinion vs ball screw type opinions. Have fun.
