You can also use high quality exterior latex house paint. There is a plotter cuttable mask specifically manufactured for Sunbrella and other acrylic awning fabrics called FabTac (I get mine from the local awning fabric supplier, TriVantage) and the instructions that come with Fabtac recommend the latex paint.
With both FabTac and regular vinyl as a mask, a key to success is laying down a coat of either clear or a color that closely matches the awning fabric to seal the mask before you go with your graphics colors. After you pull the mask, any bleeds will be easier to scratch off.
I do lots of awning work so if you have questions contact me and I'll be happy to give you any help I can.

thanks folks, i just wanted to check out Glenn's technique as I have run out of Fabtac and it will be a week or two before I get more. I use Glenn's approach with screen ink as the latex took too much work and it wasn't that flexible which the screen ink is. glad to know where the Step by Steps are.
great place, Letterville, worth every dime of $50 a year
