What kind of calligraphy? Spencerian? Copperplate? Blackletter? Uncial? And what size? And using what -- Ink? Paper?

Different pens, papers etc. will produce different effects. There are metal pens, brushes, and markers of different types available....

Try... http://www.dickblick.com/search/?sp_q=calligraphy&Image1.x=9&Image1.y=11 or a good local art supply.

Bill Davidson makes his out of a feather.... Carl Rohrs uses all sorts of tools depending on the look he wants.... metal pens, sticks, brushes... he even made a brush from some dog hair.... [Smile]

Even a chisel tip sharpie will work....I use calligraphy markers or a Pentel brush pen when I want a freeform script... do it small and enlarge it. Usually drawing the words several times and then combining the best letters or groups of letters.

A little bit OT, but at the art store they have a felt tip calligraphy pen, comes in different sizes, biggest (I think) is 5 mm, not a bad size. I don't use them for finished work, but they're good for practice, and even better to teach the kids with (no spills). I like to have one around, so that if a guest to our house is fascinated by the process, I give them one, and a few pointers. A very unique, spontaneous, and low cost gift.

The best source I know for info on Calligraphy is www.iambeth.com

Lots of examples, lessons, and video demos by the top pros. Also the YouTube videos that are linked there.
