I'm wanting to make a transition into using more water based paints, acrylics, latex etc for lettering and was wondering what lettering brushes would be best. Suggestions for Canadian suppliers would be welcome as well.
Also, has anyone tried milk paints for sign making and if so, what are your thoughts on them.

I was shocked at how well the Mack water based brushes worked. It was almost like pulling One Shot with a regular quill. I may be doing something wrong, but for me I can't clean a water based brush and go back to using it until it dries out.

The Macks are readily available & I used them for years, but 3 years ago, Jon Butterworth gave me a RoyMac (Israel) that I absolutely fell in love with. I later complained to Jon about not being able to get Roymacs here & he suggested Haydn (NZ) brushes & said he liked them better than the Roymacs. I bought some & soon gave away my Macks..... compare a Cavalier to a Cadillac. I imported mine from New Zealand. The smaller ones are reasonably priced, but you pay through the nose for #8 & up.
Dave... if you rinse the brush out with artists "acrylic brush cleaner" & pat it dry you shouldn't have to wait.

Canadian Signcrafters...they're the Best !! they can get anything...so, no duties, etc. I've used the Nocturnas for 15 years, flats and round ferrule, and Macks for about 5 years, i like the Noc. rounds over the Mack round. but the round long-haired outliners are Amazing... when cleaning, i pallet on a bar of soap after a good water rinse, pallet and rinse. you can then "oil" them in clear glycerine, but, it dries out in time, so re-dip or lay them in a tray w/ the glycerine.

Sonny, what Joe said...! but it does dry out faster than oil. that palleting on a bar of soap with water and rinse and do it again, really helps to avoid the "bulge at the ferrule" syndrome!
