OK- I have been having some major issues lately-- I save all of my working files onto a portable harddrive, every file is archived in case I need to find a file... I have noticed that some of my saved files, that may have included bitmapped images along with vector graphics, the bitmapped images have resampled down to a unusable file- like the file has become corrupt somehow... this is very random, not all of them have resampled.

the second issue is opening or importing older files- I have issues with crashing the program, freezing up, embedded fonts are ignored...

third, PowerTrace has become so unreliable, I hate to even try to use it- it freezes up and crashes everything...

The CorelDRAW autobackup files try to load, and then they usually crash everything and bring up a A.R.M. report to send

I have used X3 since it was first released, I have always had great success with it being a stable piece of software, until lately- I am running it on an Dell with XP- I have nothing else installed on that system, it is strictly used to run CorelDRAW-

I'm not sure if is hardware, software, or a combo related problem, but it has almost stopped working entirely... I have reinstalled the program several times and still have the same issues...

Any suggestions on what is making it unstable or a possible fix?
(I have already moved a 24" iMac into it's place for production, but I have almost 18 years of CorelDRAW art files that I still have to be able to get to- plus I prefer working in CorelDRAW over Illustrator...)

Assuming that you haven't installed new hardware or software in your machine here are two relatively simple things to try.

1. Exit CorelDRAW. Hold down F8 while starting CorelDRAW. Answer yes in the dialog that comes up. This forces CorelDRAW to blow away it's settings and rebuild them. If there was any corruption in the workspace it can cause CorelDRAW to do funky things.
2. Control Panel> Programs. Select CGS and select the Repair option (you may need the CD for this). This will force the installer again and repair any files that may have been corrupted.

The two things usually fix CGS if it's suddenly become erratic.

Tony, just wanted to say thanks for hanging around here and throwing in some answers now and then. It's nice to see Corel active in this forum since there a lot of folks who use the Suite.

I've been using Draw since ver.2 and am still currently using X3. Since I am no longer active in the business, I don't have a need to upgrade to the latest version like I used to. When I do though, I will!

I recently upgraded to a new computer with Win 7-64 bit. I was very happy to find out that, even though Corel doesn't officially say so, version X3 is working just fine and faster than it did in XP and Vista.

The only things that I can add to your thoughts about Michael's situation is to make sure that SP1 and SP2 are also installed, and to refer to another current post, take a look at the number of fonts installed on the system.

I've experienced problems when the backup files are set to write to the same drive as the files themselves and that drive is short on space. It might be a good idea to make sure there is plenty of free space on that portable drive also,...

Thanks Tony- I was hoping you might offer some ideas-- I am a longtime DRAW user- starting with version 1 way back when it was introduced-- I really prefer it over all of the other vector software that is out there. I will try some of those suggestions and see what happens.

Thanks Dave- I do have SP1 and SP2 and only a small number of fonts installed currently.

Tim- I'm pretty sure my backups are set to somewhere on the C drive (I'll have to check)- other files are set to save on the D drive or eventually on the H drive (removable drive with about half the space free)

Michael...If you have a particular file that makes Draw crash when importing or opening...e-mail it to me and I'll see what happens at this end.

I am using Draw X3 too.

Just send it as you would want to import it or open it.

I'll definitely let you know what happens at this end, within a few minutes of opening or importing.

(That would be tomorrow morning since it is almost time to head to bed here)
