Hi, This one has me stumped, I have a Soljet SC500
I load material, 24", Press setup, correct media size is shown. when i send data to the plotter, which is 21" wide I get error message "sheet to short" if i ignore this and cut anyway, edge of output is not cut. I have to reduce output size to
20.5 ins. before it will cut, I have been cutting with this machine for 8 years without a problem, Help!

The manual for your plotter is here,... the error messages start on page 92,..the troubleshooting section begins on page 89. If you read these sections it may very well help you solve your problem,...I could not find the error message you spoke of specifically in the list of error commands. there were a couple error commands that were similar but none were the the exact same as you described,..if you can find the specific error on the list there are causes in the middle column and solutions on the far right column. There was one for an invalid sheet and another for sheet too small with solutions for both errors.Hope this helps ya,....

Thanks for you reply, I have this manual, and
according to the book, everything should be fine,
it seems that for some reason the machine senses that the material is not wide enough for the
data being sent, even though the panel read out says it is. Anybody else have a suggestion?

if the measurement is across the width of the plotter most plotters have sensors that sense the inside of the pinch wheels to the inside of the pinch wheels, on the "y" axis which should be the vertical direction on your cut design(moving one pinch wheel or the other closer to the outer edge of your media may solve this),..if it is the length of the media (x`axis =length of the roll feed)most have sensors that subtract the distance between the blade carriage and the pinch wheels position on the roll drive grit bar,....the only way around this is to temporarily cover the electric eye hole with a piece of opaque tape(I would be cautious here as if it is actually too short the blade can ruin the cutting strip if the media is shorter than needed to complete the run,.. the adhesive can also build up from repeated use and keep the sensor from working by blocking out light) I hope this makes sense to ya,...there may be a sensor just behind or next to the grit wheel for the length measurement out of sight unless you look hard, sometimes they are behind the grit wheel on the back side of the plotter...often as not they will just appear to be a small opening and or may have a clear protective cover to keep the electric eye clean.other times not enough light will produce a false reading due to the fact that the sensor reads only if the light is blocked out by the media,..transparent media can cause problems here,... upon occasion these sensors will become dirty after years of use and or the holes become clogged with debris and give the plotter a false reading,.. at which point a cotton swab with alcohol is in order to clean the sensor,...not too much just dampen the cotton swab and squeeze out any excess,....relax the machine is stupid and it only knows what you tell it and the sensors read,..sometimes ya gotta lie to the machine to get the results you need,..

if the design is less than the cutting width of the plotter sometimes you can rotate the design 90 degrees to over come an issue like this,...just make sure you load your media the same way as the design is on your design program preview. sometimes you can cut a little extra material to get it to work this way it just depends on the size of the design to be cut.

Thanks again for a very comprehensive reply, Tim, I have checked everything you mention, to no avail. I have now reset the plotter default settings, reloaded the rip software, rebooted the computor, and Hey Presto! everything works fine!
Trouble is, I dont know which action cured the fault! still were working again so all is well. Once again Thank You for you input
