I haven't been to a sign convention for a few years and at the last minute decided to run over to Indy and check it out. Any midwestern walldogs going?
I'd like to say hi if you plan on going. My wife and I are just driving over tomorrow and staying the night. Hitting the show Friday and heading back to the St. Louis area late afternoon.
Going mainly to talk to the SignLab people and check out anything new with digital or cnc routers.
Hope to run into a few of you from Letterville!
Sign-cerely, Steve

Indy was very disapointing. I came back home today (Friday). It has shrunk down to just 3 rows for the sign related stuff, and the rest was awards and engraving and printwear.
SignLab didn't even show up! Others must have bailed at the last minute as well. Only one router table (AXYZ company)and nothing new to see. Has our industry stalled out and become complacent? Just wondering if everyone decided the same thing and stayed home.
It will be a long time before I go to another one. I was hoping to get inspired by something new and challenging but was shocked by what was missing.
I visited the Roland digital printing area and 5 Roland guys were standing around and didn't even come up and say hi. I had to motion to one guy just to get hime to come over so I could ask him a question! And I even own a Roland printer.
Sign-cerely bummed out in Indy, Steve

Sorry to hear that Steve. I guess since I wasn't there everyone just decided to stay home. (Just Kidding)
Over the years, Indy has always been one of the better shows, usually with the largest attendance of all the cities that National Business Media sets up. This year the sites were reduced from six (last year) to four.
Over the years the exhibitors connected to the sign part of the show have diminished. In Fort Worth there was only one aisle of sign vendors.
The vendors are trying to hang on in this ecomony just like everyone else and cutting back is the norm. National Business Media has a lot of last minute cancelations and that really eats into their expenses also. They are trying to put on a first class show and it is becoming more difficult in today's economy.
Of course, there is no excuse for what you experienced at the Roland exhibit.

You're right Raymond. Roland should have been falling over themselves to greet everyone but they kind of acted uninterested. They may have been feeling "what are we doing here?" and the attendance was down so why bother. I really like my Roland VersaCamm but I'll just deal with my local distributor to get any answers to the questions I may have. Glad you are up and running but I would have liked to talk to you at Indy again. Maybe you should come to DANville, Illinois this summer for a little R & R!
Sign-cerely, Steve

Steve, Sorry you were dissapointed with the show. We traveled down Friday evening and spent Saturday at the show.We were able to purchase a new piece of equipment from Kirk Anton ( Butch's son) and visit with Butch. We visited with several vendors and reps. Although the sign portion isn't as large.. as Raymond said.. the economy has affected everyone. We spoke before to several of our suppliers and they were not exhibiting because of that factor. We spent the day with Bill Hueg and dinner with he and Sue and totally missed Raymond!!!!! Thanks to the Huegs! We saw old friends and made some new ones. All in all we really enjoyed the show. Wanted a lot but wasn't in the budget ! The highlight of attending the show... At dinner we ran into 2 Indianapolis Colts players. Sorry you missed that Ray!!!Of course now David is waiting for the cheerleaders sighting. See you in Danville, David and Suze
