the Bearfest bears made their debut Saturday morning at the 51st annual Boatnik parade. after the parade the bears cruised down to the park so that all the folks could check out their rides. I think Yogi was very popular, but I might be a little prejudice
Line up at the park

Yeah, I was curious about that too. Did they custom mold them to fit the bikes or did they come like that? Pontiac got their dogs and cars from www.cowpainters.com and they were all picked out of their available stock. But I do know there was quite an investment there too. I would think making them from scratch to fit each motorcycle would be pretty expensive.

most of the bikes were trade-ins and some purchased on ebay. all bikes and bears, and materials were supplied by Evergreen federal bank. all the Grants Pass bear projects were designed here in town and then shipped out to be molded and duplicated as needed.
this year a semi articulated master was made and a local body shop made the mold and castings. we all started with the same bear, except for harley hog master as it is on a mini bike and snarley davidson, Joe does artificial rocks and waterfalls so he used concrete and kitty hair.
the arms and legs had one degree of articulation and so could be custom fit to each bike. some, like mine needed to be cut and twisted to fit the handle bars, a lot of folks added claws etc. I had to remake the muzzle and ears on yogi as he was not cartoon enough.
all the bears used fiberglass, bondo, magic sculpt, fabric and leather, etc.
heres a link to some of the past public art events
this years project was the most involved to date with well over $200,000 spent by my estimation.
hers a pic of the next project to raise money for wildlife images. I will be involved in this project also. there will be three bus stops where people will get on the safari trolley and be taken 10 miles to Wildlife images. each bus stop will have a explorer bear returning with crates of wild animals. I'll be making the crates.
That is Del Hearn the builder of the best rivertown sidecar bike and bear

only three of the bikes will never see pavement again (unless someone wants to do a lot of work) the rest could easily be rebuilt and put back into service. this is the first phase of a three year project.
I see it the same as art cars and not much different than the ridiculous stuff coming from OCC.
