Just got a file from a printer for an organization I belong to. They set up the word docs for the officers & chairs to use. The letterhead they created is so far outside graphic standards, I can not in good conscience use it.
I'm kinda floored that they didn't ask about graphic standards or go to the website as it is a national organization with trademarked logos and the eps files are right there to download. I automatically ask for this or the artwork files anytime I deal with an existing business. I'm even more floored that this file was sent to me AFTER I told them the last file DID NOT meet graphic standards and where to find them.
Example: We all know the golden arches. This would be similar to the printer making them purple AND thinking it was their decision to do so or no big deal to do so.
I give up. You can not help someone who refuses to help themselves. But this just has me shaking my head in disbelief.

So is this a job or some material they are wanting you to use as an officer of this organization or what? If they are wanting you to send out emails or letters with the offensive logos it does reflect on you...
It's sorta funny though, I've done some of those jobs where a business that's part of a national company sends me a logo along with a 10-page PDF of what can and can't be done, sizes, outlines, colors, all different variations, etc.... but the person from that company asks for it to be completely different... like we want our logo in purple on the signs or on a black background, etc.
I usually just ask "Are you sure this'll be okay, I don't see it in the book" and then make sure THEY SIGN off on the proof and I have copies of the emails/order that shows where they ordered it that way.... and I run 'em.
I mean, who appointed ME the police of what THEY want, when they work for the same company whose standards are being broken? One cool thing, it has ended up in a couple of double orders, when somewhere down the line, someone over there says "We can't do this."

It's for me to use as an officer. I keep the the official logo files on my hard drive & told them how to download them. The organization went through a huge change in the past year & there was so much hoopla about the trademarked programs & logos, who is & isn't allowed to use them, what can & can't be done to the programs that this really has me shaking my head.
Jon, if it's outside standards, I tell customers that & strongly suggest they change it to abide by standards or submit it for approval. If not, they sign off taking responsibility for it. No one appointed me logo police, but it is inside my area of expertise. If the washer repair guy saw something with the dryer that could cause a problem, I'd expect his conscience & goodwill to alert me of that. Technically, they are granted use of the artwork by the owner. Going against the owner's graphic standards can be considered a form of infringement.
