I received a brochure as a .pub file from a customer, and didn't have publisher so I couldn't open it.
So, I downloaded the 600 meg. trial version of publisher thinking it would let me open and resave this file. Publisher is asking for fonts I don't have. It's asking for Times New Roman which is in my windows font folder, but for some reason doesn't show up in the font list in publisher. So it doesn't open correctly for me even with Publisher.
Is there a way my customer can save or export the original file from publisher with the fonts as curves so the fonts aren't needed on my end? I need a pdf or other file that I can open in Corel X3. I may need to manipulate the file to meet the printers requirements for bleed, etc...
This is a brochure with text and a few photos. It's a 12 meg file.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Tony

Have them Print to .PDF with Embedded fonts or fonts converted to outlines. (Not sure if Pub can do that or not) at High Quality Print or Press quality Settings.

Tony, we always tell our customer the format we want our files in. Have been in your situation far too many times down through the years, wasting hours trying to accommodate a customer, with their incompatible formats. I feel your pain, but as signmakers we can be a little too forgiving. Provide your customer with a list if formats that suit you, rather than wrestle with what they are willing to provide

Thanks for the kind offer Bill, but I finally got it. The pdf imported into Corel as a jumbled mess of text. Changing the text back to the originally used fonts put things pretty much back in line.
The main problem was after saving the file from Publisher as pdf, it was still asking for fonts, even if they were on my computer. I think slight variations in font names was part of the problem.
I don't get a lot of work that I don't create myself. Usually they can give me an .ai file, or what I need, but every once in a while something like this comes up.
We all get the "just get it of my business card" from customers once in a while. I let them know pretty quick the cost to recreate the artwork.
Thanks, Tony
