Here's one like the foxes I posted last fall. Same size (14"x17"), 5/4 pine. Hand carved with no sanding on the carving....all colors are stains (notice you can see the grain?)

very nicely done. I like the idea of only stains being used, too.

Joe; Nice fish, too bad all of your work goes out the door. I say that only because, as I suggested to Phil in our last conversation about an intended letterhead gathering this year, was to invite the public to a walk through, and vote on displayed projects like your carvings and associated artistic creations by those participating in the event. This would generate a better understanding of who and what a "Sign Shop" is capable of to the public by creating a wider exposure outside of our realm of participation. Much like a promotionial event to benefit the exhibitors, the shop where it is held, and the public where it would be entertainment for some and education for others. Pieces on exhibit from hands on work like yours to plug in the wall creations by those who use the gadgets. Your thoughts?
John, an "Open to the Public" segment of a meet might be interesting.......without a "Peoples Choice" contest. Don't know how much would be accomplished by it tho. Seems to me, we do the educating one customer at a time on pretty much a daly basis in our own shops anyway.
Promoting a public event as part of a meet also seems like it would take a big effort and take away from drinking lots of beer.
Now, back on topic.....this piece is going into an auction at a fancy Trout Club banquet......I just might "reel" in a little more work from it.
Thanks again!
