Gary is one of those old school guys that just loves signs, letters, paint, and all things related. He has been here to my studio several times and loves to talk about the old signs of Austin and the ones who made them.
He has a large collection of hand drawn sketches and orginal artwork done by himself and local artists.
Much like Dan, it is a pleasure to be around him.

Well, Ray...in some ways, but I don't miss having sticky paint everywhere and doing all those little Times Roman letters that the architecdts loved to specify.
You and I both experience the frustration of computers, but that is what we have today.
I just received a job to restore some lettering on the side of a local Cotton Gin - it should be fund.
There is the frustration of learning new software and all things computer, but there was also frustration with brushes that didn't work right and shed hair or paints that wouldn't dry fast enough and had to be triple coated (like yellow over a dark background).
Our times today are different, yet a lot of things remain the same.

Does that mean it's a paying job?

Fabulous and inspiring work. The dog looks menacing, but I bet that chain will keep him at bay. Love the use of red/orange vs. blue. Hot!

Nice Video, the narrator could use a little life though. His website is like a trip back through time, I could almost smell it... one observation, that Apartment sign, it looks a little too perfect compared to the rest of his work... Hmmmmm. Did he cross over to the dark side just once, and maybe order a little Avante Garde vinyl lettering?

Loved his website....especially the dog's sayings. He is certainly not afraid of color....although his sign on the building is kinda plain. If I ever get to Austin, I will definitely look him up.
