OK, "jukebox" dates me - what's on your I-pod? It's interesting to see the musical diversity in Letterville and I know a lot of you are like me - if you're in the shop, the music will be playing.

I've been swapping tunes lately with the "Bluez Boyz" (Bill, Brent and Tom) and they recently sent several CD's full of good stuff. I'm planning to reciprocate with some Ruthie Foster, who knocked my socks off last night at Eddie's Attic (where John Mayer honed his chops) Go here if you'd like a little taste:

http://www.ruthiefoster.com/music.html

Interesting side story - I was talking to the guy who was sitting at the table next to us after the show and it turns out he's William Bell, one of the architects of the Stax/Volt sound and author of some major songs: "Born Under a Bad Sign", "You Don't Miss Your Water", "Private Number", and "Any Other Way". He was a very nice guy and just as excited about Ruthie's show as I was.

 -

Here's Ruthie and her band, along with some weirdo who jumped in the picture:

 -

My last compilation for the Bluez Boyz music swap was a CD of 110 reggae MP3's - if you're into Third World, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Dennis Brown, Steel Pulse, etc., send me a SASE and I'll mail you a copy......

I'm liking this Ruthie. Good choice. I usually put the IPOD on shuffle all. That way we all are happy. Course most is blues but then....Thanks to all the bluez boys for their tunes.

BTW, someone needs to tell her she needs to protect the music she's playing on her site. She playing her music as MP3 at a 192 bitrate. Its a snap for anyone to download and steal it.

Glad you're getting out and having fun Sonny! Nice pictures! William Bell... What a legend. I didn't know he wrote for Albert King, that means his lyrics made it on a Cream album as well. I looked at Ruthie's calendar.. too bad she doesn't come out west much. You Rebels are getting more than your fair share of live music! I see she's playing the Mississippi Valley Blues Fest in Davenport, Iowa next summer. I went to that last year after Pontiac.

That woman in the red with the glasses.. what instrument does she play? I swear I've seen her before in another band.

What am I listening to? A lot of Blue Note jazz lately. I've been getting into trumpet player Lee Morgan.

Thanks for the heads up!

My mp3 shuffles metal.
For the past while when I'm home I usually have the blues station on the internet going... I don't pay attention to artist names or anything just enjoy the music.

thanks for the heads up on Ruthie

At the risk of sounding WAY old...the last couple of weeks I have been falling to sleep humming the song "Mendocino" by Sir Douglas Quintet from WAAAAY back in the 60's.

Some of the older songs for we older folks are good?

Was down your way last summer - Atlanta vs Phillies on my birthday. Phils lost.

Made my way to Blind Willies in Atlanta for some good Blues!

Save me a CD - my Sirius only plays channel 74

Ruthie Foster really rocks!

Thanks

Brent, the lady in red was the bass player and she's also in a group called Yasheed. She studied with the Houston Symphony Orchestra and whipped out a violin during the show and accompanied Ruthie on a soul-dripping version of Oh, Susanna. Made me cry.

Sandy, I'll bring you some tunes to the Palmetto Meet. Steve, I got one with your name on it too - anybody else like the reggae, mon? IRIE.....

Bass player, right. I think I saw her at Blues on Grand a long time ago... maybe I'm wrong, I could have been drinking.

I still have a turntable with albums and even a color organ my brother's friend built for him while he was in Vietnam. Hook that up to the turntable and listen to Jimmy Hendrix, Iron Butterfly, and B.B. yah.

(the turntable has 8 track option too...still have 8 tracks as I thought it would be good for nostaligia.) I'll never give up my taste of honey album of Herb Albert, my mom used to play that and Simon and Garfunkle and Moody Blues; she was that cool. I really miss her when I listen to that.
