Blew the dust off the ole Roland pnc 900..this plotter was my starter machine purchased in the 80's.
Just for kicks I'd like to connect it to my laptop.
But it lacks a parallel port...can I go from parallel to USB? Thanks in advance for your time.

I picked up some similar USB to centronics & USB to serial cables on evilbay, from Hongkong- they came in the post this morning- about $2 each or thereabouts. They also came with a driver disc each.
I haven't tested them yet, though.

monoprice.com is a good place to get cables cheap.

My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone.

Watch what you buy!

Tried to run my Graphtec Plotter off my laptop (XP) ,,, got an adapter for parallel to usb complete with driver.

No go!

Even Gail Beattie who is the guru down here for Corel and building puters couldn't make it work.

Can't rember what brand it was ... in the junk pile [Smile]

(I did have an idea that the Rolands couldn't be made to work that way anyhow- but I just wanted the adaptor for less cantankerous experiments... and at about $2, it wasn't dear)

You can get a USB to parallel port cable. The total length is the tricky part. The adapter cable has a chip in it and is powered from the computer. If the length gets too long the resistance in the cable doesn't leave enough power for the chip.

My adapter cable is 6' long and I have a 6' USB to USB extension connected to an HP laser printer.

I picked up both of mine at FRY for about $10.
