I ordered the book "Budget Guide to Retail Store Planning & Design" off Ebay and a cookbook along with it. I paid for the books and they shipped but, when the package arrived, there was only the cookbook. I sent them a friendly email, enquiring if the other book had been packaged separately, hoping it would show up later. Instead of a reply, within minutes I got an Ebay notice of a full refund. So I emailed again; they told me the books had been packaged together. I told them the package was complete, undamaged, unopened with the original label intact, and no possible room inside for the missing book. They swore up and down the books were in the same package.
So why would they so quickly refund ALL of the money, leaving me with a free cookbook without first giving an explanation?

It's probably just a total CYA move on their part, because eBay feedback scores are their lifeline with sales. Not knowing you, they didn't want to take the chance that you would give them negative feedback during the "sorting it all out" process.
That's my guess. Enjoy the cookbook!

because they checked the shipping weight of the package and saw one book was missing.

I'm guessing the feedback has a lot to do with it. Rather than have you upset, they probably think it's easier to just give you your money back and call it even.
My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone. Posts: 3129 | From: Tooele, UT | Registered: Mar 2005

I had something similar, sort of, from anoither book company (not ebay).
I ordered and paid for two music books in September. They were in USA. One book arrived in mid November- I've learned to expect slow postage from this company. In mid December I emailed them saying did they have any idea when the second book might come. They replied saying they never had that book, and they should not have accepted the order, and they gave me a refund, in full.
Late last week, it arrived...a 5 month delay's not bad when it's free! I was inclined to tell them, and pay them, but I think the paperwork might be too much of a headache when there's no invoice to accompany it.

Well, It's not that big of a deal. I'm not going to leave bad feedback and I would be even less inclined to do so if they had just told me up front "sorry we made a mistake and forgot to send your book....we'll get it right out ASAP" instead of leaving me hanging. Oh well, My wife has a nice cookbook and I'll just check mine out at the library.
