I currently use Gerber Omega and I like the feature which allows me to type a word then scroll through the font menu to view the word in each font. I am looking for a font management program that will allow me to organize my fonts by category, retain the feature I mentioned above, and will be compatible with Omega. Any suggestions?

I use AMP Font Viewer. it is available here... AMP Font Viewer
I like it because you can set the preview words. It also allows you to temporarily install any font you want. A very nice feature.

there was a free font utility that I probably got from Mark Smith's Estimate site called "The Font Thing." I certainly find it used with greater frequency than some of the expensive programs I purchased.

Mike, do a search here- this question gets asked and answered about annually. There are generally lots of good replies, mostly as above.
I really like The Font Thing- except for the not seeing type 1 & open type fonts.

I prefer to use Maintype by High-Logic. It isn't free, but the price is well worth it. You can either install or load (& uninstall or unload). You can create groups if you want. I just keep the bulk of my collection in a directory outside of windows & load what I need at any given time. With Maintype, you can adjust the screen to view various aspects of typestyles. I keep the Character Map visible so viewing all characters is available while browsing thru each. I just checked & it does have the ability to view most types of fonts, including ttf's & type1 & opentype. I used to use The Font Thing but now prefer Maintype. And yes, you can type your own sample text & resize it too. It works well when you might be creating or editing a font as when you unload it, it isn't hanging around & interfering with edit ability; as The Font Thing does.
