Here in South Louisiana I never had a request like this so here goes: I have a customer that wants me to produce signs that will be shipped by them to the Dakotas where temperatures can get to minus 60 degrees F. Will Scotchcal 220 do the job? Thanks in advance!!

This link shows it good to -40 with an application temperature of 40. But Roger from Rapid Tac has videos showing lower temperature installation of vinyl, probably not that low.

Thanks for the ref. Richard(appreciate that!) And yes your right, can't apply films at -40, but with Rapid TacII you can easily down to 20 degrees. I think quality cast film has held up under -40 when applied correctly above 20.
sooo many folks don't understand the ability to apply film at 20 degrees f., I see chatter on forrums all the time, thinking the film will take too long to bond.
Folks without big shops really suffer in these temps. If only they knew about Rapid TacII

The vinyl will be applied to aluminum panels here in Louisiana in my 70 degree F shop then shipped by my customer to the Dakotas. I was wondering how well Scotchcal 220 vinyl holds up on a sign in the cold. I wouldn't know because it never gets that cold here.

In my first responce I was saying "quality cast films hold up even at lower temps." thats if they were applied correctly.
Cleaning of the substrate is a biggie, even when dry applying in warm weather, too many folks use too many cleaning agents that were not designed for the purpose.
Meaning ,they are leaving residues "not compatable to film application"
ok, now I'll shut up.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I always install vinyl dry after prepping with Rapid Prep. Rapid Prep makes for a pretty good working man's cologne too!

Bryan...As David H. said....a spritz of Rapid Tac is a nice finisher.
Rapid Prep is a good cleaner, but I always used Rapid Tac as a final touch before applying vinyl.
Actually, I usually had to use Rapid Remover first, then Prep, then Tac
After Prep and Tac, it was always a toss-up whether to apply wet or dry. I "never left home" without the complete selection of Rapid products though.

This is a true story don't really know why ,but I'll tell it (sharing I guess);
Had a babysitter last week for my daughter, the young lady is very good with children and as a bonus, she does any housework she can while baby is napping etc.(so rare these days)especially for a 4year psyc major.
Soo, we come home from doctor and my wife went up to take a nap(not feeling well)I checked the kitchen and found the dishwasher had just finished a load. Upon opening dishwasher door I was greated with a mountain of foam!!
The babysitter has always done well with this and couldn't figure out what caused the foam problem (I figured she used a bit too much soap or maybe the wrong type).
I thought well a few squirts of Rapid Tac will certainly get rid of the foam, so I squirted 3 blasts in and closed the door, set in on a short cycle and turned it back on.
WOW, in 30 minutes when I again opened the door I was happy to see no foam but more then that, as I started taking out dishes and glasses WOW, they have never looked so good (not since we bought them new).
I had noticed for about a year that the glasses always looked kinda dingey, boy is my wife happy!! And I'm actually happy with the babysitter for overfilling with soap or whatever she did! Roger

3M a Minnesota based company developed and pioneered vinyl graphics and tested them in Minnesota so they will stick. Here in Two Harbors it gets down to -40 degrees in the winter. We had -18 degrees Monday night. We apply 3M high performance on semi's,trailers, and snowmobiles outside in as low as -15 degrees. We use a radiant propane ice fishing house heater and direct the heat onto the door. No application fluid is used as soon as the heat is off it is froze under the vinyl. Heat and clean the door and use the hinge method of application. For multiple colors use Electrocut with the clear backer register through the masking and apply dry.
For trailers we put the heater inside and crank it up, direct it towards the wall you are working on. When you feel the heat coming through to the outside your ready to apply.
We use small propane heaters that work off disposable bottles that you can hold in your hand as a replacement to an electric heatgun, these work great all year round.
