These are a few of the mounting and reinforcing mechanisms we use for moderate to very heavy wall murals and dimensional signs. This might help novices understand basic secure mounting.

Thanks Pierre, Mounting is something that I always find challenging. I have a 24" granite plaque that I'm going to have to mount, any suggestions?

I've mounted many granite plaques by drilling a blind hole in the back with a diamond bit and setting a stud in with epoxy. I then drill the corresponding hole in the wall and apply several walnut size blobs of silicone to the back of the granite and hang it.
The diamond bits I use have a center water feed and I chuck them into a drill and drill through a hole in a piece of plywood that is clamped to the granite.
If you don't have access to the diamond bit, you could rough up a piece of .125" Aluminum plate, drill and tap a hole in it for the stud, and epoxy it to the back of the granite, then set it as above.

It will be installed on an interior wall (studs & drywall)

I'm estimating that weighs about 60 lb. If your stud hits one of the metal studs, it will definitely hold it. It will likely hold just in the drywall as long as you have enough silicone sealant to adhere to the wall so that the weight is carried over a larger section of wall. If installing this way, I'd do it in the evening so that it has all night to set up before anyone is tempted to touch it. If they ever wanted to remove it, there would be drywall repair needed.
You could also install panel clips and make sure the wall bracket portion attaches to the wall studs. The clip section on the plaque could be epoxied to the granite. I'd rough up that section and even drill a series of holes in it to allow the epoxy more surface to grip.

Sounds scary to me. It has allways been a interesting point for how it must be done. I reread the posts a few times, but maybe because English is not my tonque, I did not see it or understand. What I do not understand is how the granite will hold on the wall during the first 24 hours the silicone is hardening?

The stud protruding from the back of the sign carries the weight while the adhesive sets up. If the sign is really heavy, I'll usually rig some method to prop it up and hold it against the wall overnight. Once set up, the silicone is tenacious. High quality blue painter's masking tape will also hold the sign against the wall without lifting the finish on the drywall afterwards.
