Wow, it's December! How did that happen so fast?
Well, between my birthday and thanksgiving I sure did pack it in this past week! Went on sugar overload and I'm paying for it big time. I'm really draggin'. Now I'm anxious to get back to normal eating for me, where I actually FEEL better from better food choices.
I'm already back to the treadmill on a mission to do some damage control. haha
How are all you faring this week after all the feasting? Will you be ready for the next round by Christmas? haha
Let's hear how you folks are doing in the health department. Please share with us!
That's right ... spill it! haha ~ nettie

I hear ya. Too much apple pie for me this last week and now I'm jamming to get it off. These upcoming weeks will not be any easier.
Been trying to get in as much exercise as I can with the short amount of daylight this time of year. Anyone from down under care to share some sunlight?
Been active a lot, by clearing a bunch of clutter from the basement. That feels good in so many ways. Less stuff, less to worry about. Good for the soul.
Hydrate, stretch, move, Bob

Hi Janette - at long last, I am beginning to make an effort toward a healthier lifestyle....
Began the morning with a small bowl of oatmeal, instead of a bag of potato chips..haha... I did put a small teaspoon of brown sugar on it...but better than 3 eggs and a half pound of bacon, right?
Gotta lose some weight... I'm disgusted with myself.

After months of having little energy, I am glad to say I am coming back strong. Pontiac was fun, and I had high energy there but it set me back about 2 months after returning home.
I have a great line up of work for the whole winter and getting excited to start producing it.
But Nettie, from now until the new year I am looking forward to my triple berry pie, Pumpkin pie, & Cherry pie. And Kim will make sure I always have some on hand.
I also know that a few months of shoveling all that white stuff that is on it's way will help burn off a few extra pounds.

Very cool, Russ. Towards the end of the summer, I made some changes in my eating habits as well, and I've lost between 35-40 lbs. I feel MUCH better. I'm within about 15 pounds of the weight I'd like to get to and maintain... but the losing has leveled off. My wife and I are going to start hitting the gym, maybe that'll get it going again.
(She's just going for moral support, she weighs about 115... LOL)

It's still beautiful outside. I bought some earth shoe boots with faux fur lining and was so excited but the band is way too tight, and they don't make a stretchy size. My sis and daughter all tried it on but it was the way it was made.
The earth shoes (as some of us rememeber!) came out in about the 60's and slant your body to the back with reverse heel technology and you burn more calories when you walk with the wonderful benefit of keeping the spine in the natural alignment.
I will go back to the Birkenstock company to shop for some in hopes I can just get a great arch and enjoy the walks through the forest preserves and the river walk where they are putting in new botanical gardens next the to pond.
Lately am going back to a lot of the raw food diets, as my favorite dish is the wild rice with feta cheese and mushrooms with adamane beans and raisins! yummmmmmm.
I have considered being a "chocolatier" giving parties that give chocolate tasting treats too, and it's the dark healthy chocolates with everything from chocolate cocoas with spices from Vietnam to chocolate martinis and chocolate Moooose parfiats with strawberries and cream!
that's with antioxidants, of course, oh yummm.

joined Maui Boot Camp again. It was a great 4 week experience in June and July, but then the instructor tore an ACL... but finally started up another 1 hour class, 3 evenings a week, for 4 weeks... and this time each class starts with 1.6 mile run, instead of just 1 mile... and then we do various drills... hill sprints, liners, or pacers... and we rotate through stations using weights, gymnastic balls, medicine balls, or just doing calisthenics... then we do at least 20 minutes of crunches, bicycles, planks, side risers etc etc... I might have gained back a few pounds between July & November... but this month i feel like i got back to where boot camp had gotten me pretty quick, and now it's taking me to even new heights of conditioning I'm sure!
(also I saw this rockin' chick on Facebook, sporting a sexy halloween costume with the raddest 6-pack abs for a signgirl that I've ever seen... if I ever lost touch of reasons to work out... that pic said it all)

I have to agree Doug, that was an amazing photo.
It feels so good to lose weight. I get around much better and don't dread doing things like I used to. I've still got more I want to get rid of, but I'm thankful for what I've been able to accomplish so far.

This is something I think about all the time Nettie. I used to be in great shape, was a powerlifter for years, worked out five days a week, played softball all summer long, ate good, took supplements, all the good stuff. Then, my best friend died suddenly, we worked out every day together, he was only 30 years old. It left me not wanting to work out anymore, so I dropped it cold turkey. That was eight years ago. At times I do get in some walking, but thats pretty much the extent of it. I surely dont eat right, and know I need to. Its not an easy step after all these years of eating what I want when I want, and being a couch tater. But, I am going to do my best in the coming year to make some big changes in my lifestyle. Lose weight, get healthier and try and get a few more years out of my body. Oh, and that pic was great. You looked like a totally different person Nettie. What a flat tummy!

Continue to run 2-3 times a week 10-12Km and push weights as well as eating smaller meals through out the day. Ran 25Km (16 miles) today, over the escarpment ( beautiful Country). Some friends have commented I've lost too much weight, but I feel great.

So glad to see the participation on this thread. I'm hoping more people realize the importance of talking about their health related circumstances, staying in better tuned with our mind and bodies, and keeping health in the forefront of our lives. It really is very important to EVERY aspect of life. HOW we live IS the difference in how we FEEL!. Ok, sermon over. haha
Big Kudos to those of you who have done so well with weight loss. BRAVO Russ and Jon, that is fabulous! Jon, it's great that your wife is joining you. Gotta tell you, that even at 115 lbs, as the years go by, it's about keeping toned. Even skinny people can't avoid gravity. haha
Shane, I've experienced the same thing where folks get used to seeing you a certain way, and then when you trim up they start telling you that you are getting too thin. Only you can be the judge, on how you are feeling. It feels great to be a lightweight doesn't it? I feel so puffy this week from my eating last week that I just can't wait to get back to "normal". hahaa
Doug, Russ and John, thank you for the compliment. I've always had a pretty flat tummy, because I carry any weight I gain primarily in my booty and my on my thighs. ("baby's got back" when she gains weight. haha) When I trim up, the strength in my core becomes more pronounced. Not many times do you expose your midriff in day to day life, so people don't realize I even sport a six pack under my clothes.
Doug, I did a boot camp class once and it whupped my butt! Brutal, but I felt so high for a week after it. Still, it was very hard on my knees because they had me doing 15 MINUTES straight of jumping jacks, and then the same for jumping rope. Holey moley!!!!! My knees are too old for that sort of pounding. haha
Sunset, I absolutely LOVE zumba. I quit the gym earlier last year, and I so very much miss my zumba class. I have actually entertained the thought of getting certified to teach it. We'll see if I ever make the time for that.
John and Todd, if I can suggest to you that you don't ease into, but rather plunge into making some healthful changes. The first couple weeks will be challenging, but you'll start to feel great and that feeling will keep you going. John, get some good cardio going, and then start back with some weights. Lighten up your body, and you'll soon feel like doing more. As you probably know, it feeds on itself.
Sam, good to see your progress on your recovery. Just so you know, I put a great big dent in our triple berry pie last week. I just LOVE that stuff. (with icecream no less!)
Maurice, I'm sorry about your circumstances with Ulcertive Colitis. Funny because I just first heard of that ailment last week on a commercial, and wondered what that was exactly. Maybe you could expound on that for us here. What is it?, What are the symptoms, how can you prevent it etc. We could learn here from your experience with it.
Deb, dark chocolate makes a great snack. hahaa I'm a fan of dark choc. covered peanuts and almonds. Never have tried those earth shoes.
David, keep on hiking gran'pa! You are a good example staying fit for your grandkids! (especially to keep up with them eh? )
Hey Bob K, my fitness nut friend. Keep peddling as long as you can, and try not to go into hibernation over the winter. You are right, breathe ... hydrate ... stretch. Good advice!
Now, where the heck is Mike Pipes hiding?
I'd like to hear from Jill too!
Cheers and keep the input coming! Share your triumphs and your battles. We're here for each other.

I'm still here. I was away for a bit and I actually did a three mile hike. I think it was uphill both ways. I felt like I was going to die. I have been holding steady at 148 which is about 3# heavier than last year at this time. I am having sleep issues but I guess that comes with old age? Been very busy with signs, and was not too bad over Thanksgiving. Love....Jill

Mikey gots a purtty new mountainbike, yes he likes playing in the dirt!
OK so first of October I went on a 4 week break from dieting and exercise because I was just depleted and out of gas. Went from 225lbs to 250 in that time. Dieted for a week and hit 246 then went out of town the following week and came home at 255lbs. Dieted the week after that and hit 243lbs (I hold a lot of water) then Thanksgiving brought me back to 260lbs. Dieted again this week and am down 11lbs to 249 this morning.
Talk about swingin'! I probably embrace the carbs and salt a little too much when I go off-diet and end up packing on water along with it, then drop it quickly with aggressive training cause it's just not possible to move those kinds of numbers of fat.
The break was good for me though because my strength, speed, power and endurance all shot WAY up thanks to the recovery time.

Way to go Russ! Jon too! Good for all of you for treating your bodies well - or at least trying, it's not always easy in today's world.
I feel for you Maurice. Colitis sure can suck absolutely everything out of you. If you are on prednisone or something similar make sure you take a calcium supplement because it depletes the calcium reserves from your bones and take iron if you are loosing blood. The condition is debilitating enough without adding anemia to it. Good luck, I hope your recovery is fast and complete.

Good news is I got my vertigo issues checked out by a specialist. He told me my balance mechanism is knocked off on one side, (cause still unknown but could be from a virus as a child or a hit to the head about a year ago) which is what's causing me the nausea. (in other words, motion sickness) That news in itself took alot of stress away from not knowing.
And the 'gooder' news is, I know it's still there but it's much improved. Am currently attempting a lower stress lifestyle. Ok, make that soon. I'm not quite there yet but things are improving.
I need to start walking again. That generally makes a world of difference in all aspects for me.
And am tapping into my new world of staging and decorating. So far helping some friends, but it's getting me in the know and 'out there'. Some requests are dribbling in here and there. And we all know, what we think, we do. So you can say I'm doin' it! Had an open house for the townfolk to show them what I'm about. It was a neat event I'll be taking part in again. AFTER I actually create stock to sell next round.
Overall, I'm enjoying life while I figure it out. Walking helps me think so I'll start up next week again. Thanks for the reminder to keep at it nettie!
And yeah.. that pic was really something. You've earned it girl!

just back from seeing my specialist Friday and he did just put me on vitamins and calcium supplements. and follow up in four weeks took blood work to check certain levels, im feeling much better now but really have to wtch i dont over do it. this colitis thing is al new to me but my wife has read alot about it and is trying to get the food thing figured out, my illness hit me fast and like a train started with frequent (sorry this sounds gross) bowel movements, 4 to 5 times a day, then blood passing and blood clots, then 10 to 14 times a day, you lose weight fast become dehydrated and basicly get wore right out. the longer you have to wait for medical attension the worse it gets, My large intestine was completely inflamed and colon too. medication is helping 9 weeks on a decreasing dose of prednesone. 9 pills today to take one less every week till done. you are basicly held hostage to your toilet. three weeks ago I was depressed, angree, losing wait still, frustrated, but today im doing great so there is a light at the end, I will have to watch my food intake as it is a big part of this illness but after what I went through im more than willing to listen to my wonderfull private nurse my wife Kelly thanks for all the kind words and caring Maurice
