Well, there have been a number of FaceBook posts here in the last year, & some people are believers in FB as another fun site to spend time on, others are not interested & there are mixed views on social media in general when it comes to marketing value. Myself, I believe it is a force not to be overlooked.
I don't claim to fully understand how to take best advantage of the opportunity, but I recognize that it is an opportunity & one with little to no hard costs, just a moderate investment of time...
So, I joined in a few threads on a few sign forums & gathered most of my first 50 or 60 friends within a few days, from swapping friend requests with my other signs forum friends. That was for a FB page under my individual name.
More recently I have recognized the need to create a business identity on FaceBook, & I have done so this last week. My FB friends have received my FB invitation to "become a fan" & I can thank many of them for already signing on.
Again, I don't see far enough down the road in this new technology, to understand how, when, and where the best benefits will come, from a marketing standpoint... but I think a significant fan base has to add to credibility, and it will all be sign related content, so just like here, there may be value for other sign makers to share in each others discussions in these outside venues.
So, "Become a Fan!" of the Island Sign FB page, and send me invites for your pages so I can become a fan in return... and we'll all see what come of it as these social media trends continue to skyrocket in popularity!

I am curious as to where these "fan" pages are going as well. You both have obviously spent a fair amount of time promoting your sites and I'd be interested in hearing how you feel it may benefit you. My daughter recently put up a page for her photography there. It is nice to keep up with her new work and photography is a vanity item so it may entice people to hire her, but is there a bigger picture?

I got over 200 fans in less than 3 days. I'm trying to promote the VALUE of signs when I make my posts. Provide information to the public of the benefits of quality signage - along with promoting myself.
I've also been meaning to let other Letterhead FBers know that they are free to use anything that I post on my wall on their own.
I haven't gone too deep into it yet but plan on being more detailed in the future.
I have actually gotten about $ 5-6000 worth of work from FB friends since February. They either forgot that I do signs, or seeing me post reminded them that I do signs. Working on a 2K job right now from a friend from high school who has property in Gainesville ('bout 3 hours away). He saw me on FB and decided to get in contact for the job.
So, it's working I guess.

This thread is a great reminder. I put up a Facebook page over a year ago and promptly forgot all about it. Kerry's Signs & Graphics Facebook page Maybe I'll get inspired to actually do something with it.
I do know that while posts to your personal Facebook page don't show up in search engines, posts to a business page will.

I have a facebook page @Dawood Signscientifical I mainly use it to catch up with old friends and what not, but I sell lots of logos and business cards by way of it!

Thanks for my new fans from Letterville! I can't yet say what the value may become over time, but I'm convinced it is a part of the landscape of the future, & I want to be involved already when I figure out how best to leverage it.
