Local City that was founded during the Gas Boom days is undergoing a "beautification project" along their Main Street. They will be install 8' tall Gas Derrick replicas made from steel and painted black. They have asked me to provide some ideas for the street name signs to be installed atop these derricks at each intersection. The first thought I had was a black cast aluminum type of sign, but there could easily be several hundred of these signs, making that option VERY expensive.
I know it would help to see an image of the gas derrick, so I'll try to track something down and post it later.
Does anyone have any creative suggestions?
Thanks
Denny

Before you get too far into it, depending on the funding of the project or if it's a state highway, the signs may have to conform to MUTCD. States sometimes require a design submittal of signs prior to any vendor bidding. I have gone through a few jobs where it became problematic because the client did not know there were rules attached to money used from State and Federal highway funds. Even downtown or business associations who do this on their own may have no option but to comply because the state "owns" the highway. That may not limit you to the shape of the sign, but may control the typeface and color.
