The electricity went out about 2 hours ago. My computer systems are on UPS backup. I shut down the desktops and cranked up my laptop, it is good for about 3.5 hrs. The modem and router are on one UPS, I should be good for quite a while. When my laptop runs out I'll crank up Shirl's and be good for another 3.5 hrs. When her's dies I will try plugging mine into the second UPS and see how that works.
GAWD I love technology!!!

When all fails...gotta have them messenger pigeons in the back yard Internet went down for most of the day, yesterday, and I was at a standstill...Technology is good, but we are at it's mercy! Aside from making a good living with this technology, I'm still not convinced that society has improved or made great strides because of it. It has it's good sides but on the other hand has somewhat hampered face to face personal contacts. Social life has taken it's toll because of the internet. People would rather put their info, minute by minute it seems, on Facebook, rather then participating in social get togethers like we use to have 15 or 20 years ago. Organizations in our small town of 2500 put on dances with live bands and they are lucky to have 50 people show up. Adults and kids are becoming anti-social because of the length of time they spend playing their solo video games or chat lines, hours and hours at a time. Yesterday, when the internet was down, after my 2 hours of trying to diagnose the problem, I finally went downtown to inquire. Dropped in an office and the secretary was totally upset that she had to call 20 people to advise them of a meeting. "I could have just emailed everybody in a matter of minutes" she said. For us old geezers this technology is great stuff but I fear for the new generation as I observe their behavior and their lack of social and life skills. Dave, I write all this, as I wait for my custom built computer that I should pick up in Sudbury on the weekend. Just had to rant
