I was doing a dual cab pickup this weekend that was dark blue, and the man wanted white letters...so I masked it, instead of hand lettering it twice.
Right in the middle of working on this truck on the weekend, I ran out of mask...I was using Gerbermask.
In a foul mood, I searched the shop for some old vinyl with weak adhesive, that might work for a mask...when low and behold, I found a roll of that vinyl that looks like etched glass. The roll I had was Oracal. It felt like it had the right tack, and I liked the idea of being able to see through it....so I tried it.
It worked out great. I think the etched glass vinyl actually works better than the other "standard" masks. It has a nice feel to it, doesn't bleed, and peels off easy...goes on with no bubbles...what more could you ask for? I checked the prices between regular mask and using the etched, and they are within ten bucks of each other.
Just thought I'd let you know something new...However in retrospect, I'll bet there are others already using the etched for paint mask. Just thought I'd share a "new" discovery.

We use ONLY "R-Tape's" yellow paint mask! All the others will not hold up to paint & airbrushing. We in include this mask in our pinstriping kits as well. We also apply a small amount of Rapid Tack to help the mask "fall off". www.xcaliberart.com

I give it a light touch with a black pounce bag. Gotta use it for something, right? Great tip Jeff.

How about "Grip-Mask"? It's water soluble and drys clear as crystal...just mask off immediate area and spray, dry, cut, paint, peel, deliver...
As far as transfering design, I use same white or black I use for airbrushing shadows (very thin), load airbrush and spray right on pounce marks, no dust that way, and you can regulate how much you administer....
