Ah, I've got two banners to do. 5ft x 15ft, three color vinyl. Ya think a clean floor will work? I just might have to do it that way, but I'm gonna have to be sporting on knee pads. How do others handle this kind of job?

Here's the way I did them. Do the layout on screen, scale your table to the layout, On screen, Apply the vinyl in each section just like the layout. So the table is 4'x what ever. then just do what you can in that space to begin with, then move the banner another table length and do the rest. I've done this many times. It works.

Yup, Do it in sections. thats how I do them, and I usually use a 6' folding banquet table!

Actually,,,I was going to have it printed at Best buy banner/DG Grafics in Riverside, CA. It would have cost more to print it than do it in vinyl. Besides, it's all solid color lettering.

Not sure if you have any Racket Ball courts in your area. I know it sounds crazy but people are renting them so I ask them if I could rent their court so I can project and do my layout, set up some ladders and planks put some drop cloths. I let them know I'm not going to be painting so they don't worry about any paint.
Or maybe you have a sign shop friend who's has a bigger wall space. But after it's layed out I would paint it on the floor, but yes it is rough on the knees and back and neck and joints, ahhh damn sub it out.
Or it's time to make a new wall for bigger stuff like this, then you'll get another big banner job that's bigger then your new wall where does it end??? Just kiddin with you, but it's happened to me...

Two fold up tables from costco, short ends touching. Never will I have permanent tables again after these things. Right now I have one at the campsite. Awesome...

Hey Alicia . . . a while back there was another thread about this very thing . . . I was tryin' to find it (I'll post the http if I find it) it had a few good ideas . . .
Here it is! (I started searching on page 12 going backwards - could'nt find it . . . so I went all the way to Feb and started looking around page 34 or so and worked backwards and finally found it . . . on page 13. lol )
PS: I hate knee-pads too!. Here are a few alternatives:
~ A small foam pool-float or gardener's foam knee-pad. Just move it along with you as you go. (They come in cute colours too).
~ UH-oh. Foam knee-pad hiding somewhere in shop, or maybe I left it in the truck, or maybe i just don't wanna walk way over yonder and get it . . . I just grab one of the many, old blankets lying around the shop, usually used for protecting signs being delivered.
~ Styrofoam sheet insulation. Usually have a few scraps of this here and there in the shop. Makes a suitable knee-pad until I find the other thing.
~ I recall years ago, kneeling on a mechanics padded dolly while lettering the lower parts of a race-car, easily pushing myself along when necessary . . . tho' I know you would'nt wanna roll directly on a banner, this might come in handy for certain other floor work.

Try this.. My shop is too small not to. I lay the whole thing on the floor with the first 8ft on the table. and letter from left to right. As it fills up- I hang the wet part on the wall, then let it loop to the floor and back onto the table as it goes, with screen ink - the first hung part is dry before i'm done.

Good replies all, but Alicia's difficulty isn't just length- it's fitting the 5 ft height on a skinny table too...
You could use two tables, but we just hang the whole thing on the wall & do it there - quick & easy. Whether vinyl, or painted, it saves a bent back.

i'm still having a hard time believing that subbing it out isn't cheaper and more lucative. i could have each one done for $225 tops...you can do that cheaper in cut vinyl and labor?..hmmmm...idk 'bout that.

Actually Best Buy banner was going to print the banners for about $350.00+ shipping costs. But if I would have bought just the blank banners, 13oz, they'd only be about 45.00 bucks each.

Alicia, you need a better wholesaler. Printed full color, hemmed and grometted, those shouldn't cost you but about $125 each, plus shipping. That's gonna be hard to beat when you add up the cost of your blank, your vinyl, and your time.

I've been using Best buy banner for 25 years now. I'd hate to give them up. They do make really great banners though. But as far as printed banners, they're a tad high. I might have to shop around a bit. See,,it's a pretty simple banner, no biggie. The slash is the middle is really two different banner colors sewned together. Black and orange.

Ah, I was wrong on the blank banner costs. The blank banner was about $85.00 ea. and that price includes shipping.
