I have thought this for a while now and it was confirmed today. One of the sales men for one of the sign suppliers that I use (or used to use) has his own printer and is doing work out of his house on the side.
Funny thing is in the last couple of years we have been buying more and more from this company after a few years of not much (due to other reasons).
A sales guy calls from there all the time on Friday to see what I need on Monday, I think I am going to tell him that I will be doing my business elsewhere.
I know what an employee does on their own time is there own time but do you think its a level playing field? Do I pay the same for the materials that he does? I doubt it.
Sorry for the rant.

Jake I too would have a difficult time if my supplier had a salesman who pinstriped. I've had a problem similar to that where they were hitting my accounts with a new striper but it never worked out for them. I guess there are clients who are committed for whatever reason.

Conflict of Interest for sure. I'd voice concerns with the supply house. Yeah, it's on his own time (or is it?) but I would bring up the fact that competitor is waltzing through your shop on the premise that he is a salesman for the suplier. (which if worded correctly can be taken as muddying their name).

Jake, Big Mike doesn't get my route, he'll fill in now and then and it's always good to see him. We've known each other a long time. Let me know what happens w/NESS

I have to agree with Len, Nepco is what suppliers like Garston want to be when they grow up. I only wish they carried 3M and Gerber products. I've broken recently a 16 year bad habit from Garston and found out how great it feels to be rid of their, and I quote "sales prevention staff"

Definitely a conflict of interest there. You should call the owner / manager of the company and complain. I bet they don't know he's using their equipment to compete with their customers!
