Was wondering if there is anyone out there that speaks Spanish, who would be so kind to proof read and make corrections to an ice cream menu sign? I used the English to Spanish translator, but have no idea if what I chose is even close to correct usage. Thanks in advance for any and all input.

Hi Kymi,
My daughter is fluent in Spanish - is this something you could e-mail to her? If so, give me a call or e-mail and I'll set it up for you......

Kymi - just a little note from my experience with translating to Spanish - just get one interpreter and go for it!! For one of my signs I made the mistake of asking three people, and got 3 answers. [Roll Eyes]
Oh yeah - and I think that using someone like Sonny's daughter is a lot better than those "translators" 'cos they know more of the vernacular language, it flows better, sounds more natural.

Karen just made a good point - Spanish is different in Spain than it is in Mexico. Fortunately, Jessica has studied in both, as well as Guatemala.

Rene, I'm with you (but what else do we REALLY need to know?)

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the response and offers.
Karen, good point, I got 3 different interpretations from the english to spanish computer translators. Now I need a human to make sense of it all.
Renee, Cheers! Did I hear a french accent when you were speaking spanish?
Sonny, thanks, hope your daughter doesn't mind you volunteering her for work.
Sal, would love your input. You two, check your email. Thanks again.

Kymi, she said it looked fine to her, but she's sending it to a friend for a second opinion.....

Kymi, this is what I will typically do for foreign language issues, I will go to my local high school or college and ask the language department if they would assist me with the translation, for which they are always extremely cooperative. Then I will take the formal translation out on the street and ask some people who speak the language what it says and what they think of it, and possibly make some slight alterations. That usually results in a version that is correct and understandable by the public, who is usually the target audience. With all the variations in language, I don't think it is possible to get an "absolute" correct translation ever.

Hiya Kymi,

Unless the client is willing to pay additional for the research and effort to do the translation, I tell them to provide me the content exactly how it's supposed to be presented.

I also make sure that whatever I provide is proof read and approved by them before I begin the work.

It's saved me a lot of time and headaches.

Havin' fun,

Checkers
