I have a project coming up where I will need to paint a number of HDO plywood panels using latex (that's what the specs call for). I'm thinking about investing in an airless sprayer for perhaps better production and a better finish. I've looked at some of the small Wagners as well as some of the larger ones and right now Costco has one on a pretty good sale on one. I've tried other guns both pressure and HVLP and just haven't gotten the results I've hoped for. Anybody had and experiences (good or bad) or have suggestions? Or am I better off staying with a roller?
Thanks for any advice.

I personally think airless is better for spraying thicker materials. That said, I don't have a very good HVLP gun. There is still going to be overspray with either, but maybe more on the floor than in the air.
If you're looking for smooth, I guess spraying is the way to go. Just for coating out, I'd stick to the roller.
Keep in mind that it needs time to cure. It needs a day or two before finishing. Some have had problems by trying to put vinyl on too quickly.

I am going to try the small Wagner airless very soon. I've been told by more than 1 'head that they work great for waterborne paint. I'm done rolling that stuff. I'm just not happy with the results a roller gives with waterborne. To me that stuff is way to thick for HVLP.
Edit: By the way, forget those big airless units with the hopper or siphon tube. They take forever to clean. You have to run a bunch of lacquer thinner through them to get rid of all the paint in the hose. Water alone won't do it.

i have been spraying latex with auto gun NON HVLP. i have had no problems. i have also used foam rollers with latex and brought out a great finish.
I wouldnt use airless to put primer on a doghouse. better off finding you a gravity feed gun

I purchased a small Airless from Sherwin Williams last year. The primary reason was for my home fence and decks. Mine wasn't very expensive but worked great.
The only downside to these is clean-up. The hose going to the gun must be washed out and maintined carefuly. And that takes some time. Although it's good for several panels, it's too much trouble for only one.
The coats are very smooth. I'd buy one again.

I bought one when I remodeled my house works perfect nice smooth finish. Doesn't work well on the sandblasted part of HDU, Once again if you are doing alot of and I mean alot of panels it would be great, But the hassle of cleaning that thing is not worth one panel.
