Dale funny you mention Red Skelton, My 10 year old son absolutely LOVES to watch the DVD's I have of Red Skelton. When he comes over, it's the first thing he asks to watch.
I am so grateful that these people lived during times of television and or movies so we can enjoy them and share the talent even when they are gone.
Gonna watch the cannonball run again tonight. Now THAT movie has a whole bunch of funny actors in it.

Bob, I believe that Red Skelton was one of the greatest, if not underrated, comedians of all time. He and so many of his contemporaries had the natural God-given ability to make you roll on the floor laughing for hours without using foul language, sexual inuendoes,or racial overtones.
Your son has great taste. I saw Red Skelton at a university up in Ohio about 2 years before he passed on. Even though he was 'showing his age' and doddering a little onstage, he was so genuine and hilarious, it was an incredible performance.
I know the world has changed, but it's sad that so many of these performers who entertained us for hours are gone, and TV is now basically a sewer, and a wasteland of useless and meaningless programming. For years, we only had 4 channels, and were never without good programs. Now we have 140, and there's nothing fit to watch.
Dom Deluise was an original. He had his own set types of characters, like Red Skelton, and was very good at them. Never afraid to make fun of himself, or infuse a dull situation with some much-needed humor. I used to get a kick out of when he'd crack himself up, and get to laughing so hard, he couldn't talk. Some of those old celebrity roasts were like that. We'll miss you, Dom.

Closing credit outtakes with Burt Reynolds, the closing scene from "Blazing Saddles", his appearances with Johnny Carson...man, Dom was a riot when it came time to improvise.
Although nothing alike, I can see Dom and George Carlin sitting around cracking each other up in a better place.

Bob; what a surprise that you mentiond the "Cannonball Run". The days of the original Illegial "Cannonball Run" (before the movie)were my Glory Years when my then social circle was contrary to my socialeconomic stature of today. One of my fond reflections would be when Steve "Yogi BEHR" beat Brock Yates and Dan Gurney in what I believe to be the last illegial 1971 or 72 race by 15 minutes driving a brand new Cadillac while Yates and Gurney were driving a "Ferrari Daytona". As I remember, Gurney, as a co-driver was sleeping, and upon waking looked over at Yates who was bug eyed and staring intently at the windscreen. The speedometer was stady at 150mph and as Gurney looked forward could not see much more than a donkey length deyound the hood, it was raining hard, so he covered his eyes, slouched back down and went back to sleep. Yogi Behr, the "Rain Driver" who won the last illegial "Cannonball Run", was my social group at that time along with Mac Tilton, Newman Sharp, Arnie Nielson, Jerry Willets(Sugar Blues Offy)Peter Bryant (Shadow F1) and with Sign services to Marc Donohue, Peter and Doug Revson, Mike Petit and numerous street racers who initiated the Hot Rod industries that we know today. Thanks for your jolt back to memory lane.
