This has been all over the news of late. Each time it plays we stop what we are doing and rejoice with her... what a performance!

What a bright spot in a dreary world. In the middle of so much negative news and greed there appears this powerful voice coming from a lady that most of us wouldn't even notice.
Says a lot about our method of judging people, doesn't it?
I've seen this dozens of time and it always brings a smile and tear.

I also felt the guilt from judging the outside. But I also noticed something so joyful and pure in her personality. O.K. with that said you cannot judge ME BY MY AGE!!! haha

The thing that has rankled me right from the beginning about this whole thing is the "wonder" that "she" can sing. There is a really sad and negative undernote to the whole sensationalist scenario. That being said, I love her cocky spunk and sense of humour and her voice is lovely and I hope she can capitalize fully on rising above others, negative attitudes .

If Shania Twain looked like her, well there would be no career. It rarely is about singing totally.
That said, I agree with Kelly. Maybe this says more about us even if we are happy for her. So if she couldn't sing what would our attitude be of her when she sang and looked foolish?

I wonder how much "hurt" the comments on how "ugly" this woman is has caused. Sure, she is acknowledged for her lovely voice, but at the same time branded as hideously homely - which for the record I don't find her....
It's like saying we are amazed at what a great designer John Doe is especially considering he has buck teeth and a hair lip.

Yes I agree Totally simply beautiful... She reminds me of another Diamond in the rough.. a Canadian Singer, from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, who has made a great career for herself, on her own.
Her name is Rita McNeil.. she was born with a hair lip, and that makes it even more amazing....
Here she is in concert, with the men from the deep, actual Miners, who travel with her to back her up.

I wouldn't believe if anyone said she wasn't aware of the extreme level of ability she possesses, & I'm sure others had heard & acknowledged her superior talent... so I also feel confident she has been offered, or encouraged to dress that part, and she chose the sleeper option, to cruise in, un-noticed, & then catch everyone unawares... I think it was a great strategy, not nearly as significant as her unbelievable talent, but certainly a part of it... and, if my suspicions are even a little bit correct... I think all discussions about shame on our material pre-judging selves... well all that is OK now, in my book. I think she wanted to appear a little frumpy, for effect... NOT to say I don't think she is genuine... but I'll bet she was coached to consider sprucing up her look, and opted for not doing so, as part of her stratgey...
...anyway, what do I know... just an opinion... but I loved the 3 times I watched that video so far sniff... sniff

"ugly" some commentators have said...it is all relative to the eye of the beholder though.
I grew up as a child with an older relative (also Scottish) who looked just like that. To me she looks perfectly 'normal'.
'Ugly' to me actually starts with Paris Hilton or Pamela Anderson's faces...I could not stand to have to look at those mascara-ed models. Give me natural any day where you get what you see!
Our younger girls do quite a bit of singing, and going to those competitions causes you to sit you back very quickly to learn to not prejudge people- some look like there's nothing behind or inside them, till they open their mouth, and the ability they have is just wonderful. Others, usually better-looking, can leave you waiting for something better.
Perhaps those who're not such good lookers become better in the loong run because they have to try harder to win acclaim?
I have no doubt that the TV station thrives on the attention got from making sensational TV programs, and that the judges must have known from rehearsals, what she would be like, and they must have preplanned their speeches- whe else read them so blatantly?
Great singing, Joe- thanks!
