Prompted by the Illustrator Team, this morning I looked at a new, exciting vector based software program. Well, new for 1986 and its commercial release in ’87 that is. It may not be considered new “today” but it can still be classified as exciting; Adobe Illustrator (working name of “Picasso” back then)!
This first YouTube jump is from a VHS tape that shipped with the original AI product and features none other than John Warnock himself. While the full run time of the tape was about an hour, this video is just under nine minutes in length (8:43). The first tutorial starts at the 6:44 mark. My-oh-my; that wasn’t all that long ago all things being relative!
The second YouTube jump is a bit more “hip and marketable” and lasts about seven and half minutes (actual tape was longer,). It’s interesting to hear the verbiage and sales pitch used throughout.
I enjoyed this Monday morning history lesson and thought you might as well.

Brings back memories Bob. I got me first copy in December of 88. That, a copy of SignPost and a Graphtec 2100-50 and we were up and cutting films for our screens.
