what causes banding on prints? environmental matches are done cleaning is done still banding ie. areas where ink seems spoty or dry in faint lines running the length of material?

that sounds like a media issue, what are you printing on? try a different roll on the same settings, and try a differnt profile, could you send a photo? feed speed calibration would show width wise, across the width of the machine

Run through the test prints for nozzle checks and calibration. If the heads are not all firing you will get banding. If the calibration is slightly out you can also get banding. Media vs profile settings can also cause banding.
Some cheap medias you will always get bands on no matter what you do. If you're using versaworks try using unidirectional and a slower head speed on lower grade medias.
Sometimes rolling the first metre off the media can get rid of imperfections in the print as fingerprints etc will affect ink laydown.
Just a few tips. Hope they help

Murray, I believe it is ruined. Go ahead and order a new one. As a side note, I am starting a company called "Versacamm Recycling, LLC" and will help you discard of that one. We are even offering a rebate on the freight costs, so you can get rid of it at absolutely no cost to you.
/Sorry, wish I could help

You might need to do a cleaning with the Q-tippy things too. We usually clean ours every couple of weeks. The machine doesn't do the best job with the self clean. Also you can replace the wipers and the little clear plastic piece behind the wipers that cleans them off. Also try using the PCV2 profile; it's the only one I can find that prints 1080x1080 so it prints smaller areas at a time that way if you get banding it's not as noticable. We have also had problems with having a fan next to the printer making it print a little goofy.

Banding running the length of the material is usually a flaw in the material. Plugged jets would band the width of the material. A dirty spot on the encoder strip could also cause it to band in the length of the material. This is the clear strip just above the metal bar the head runs on. Versams do band in the width of the material on black and especially cyan running 50% - 70%. There is no fix, this is a property of the ink. This is evident upon printing cyan at 60% pure, for 50" X 4 feet and viewable at a distance of 4 feet or more. The cause is the pattern it sprays at how fine the spray is.
