These are new shop doors. They have six of them. Should I use paint or vinyl for this job? -

Just had to stir the pot a little, huh Alicia?

My vote would be for paint because the edges of the vinyl in the grooves where the door rolls up is going to look terrible in a few months. And it's black, so there is less chance of premature fading and failing.

I would also paint because you would save alot on vinyl and transfer tape. The trick would be set-up, either step ladders with a plank or extension ladders, plank and jacks. I know the same follows thru for vinyl. And with Black paint, no need for second coats. Did they add six more doors?

When the vinyl eventually failed, it wouldn't fun getting it off. Seems like with paint you would just paint over the top of the old.

My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone.

I vote for vinyl, because you don't want to waste your time with mundane projects.

You are an angel to me, because of your talent.

I can't wait to see what you do next.

Maybe I can make you a sign for over the door of your new digs.

I'm with the paint crowd. Too many places for vinyl to fail. You might make a vinyl mask for the numbers....or not.

Have fun, lady.

I was hoping most of yous would vote for paint. I have a scaffold to work off of. And I was concerned on how I was going to get the vinyl to slightly wrap into the crevases of the door. Besides, I luv painting. I get to set up my scaffold, put on the radio and paint away. Plus I also thought about in a few years when the whole building needs repainting. It'd be easier to sand and repaint then the "or so boring" alternative of vinyl removal, with the adhesive caca all over the place. Hey look, Steve didn't catch the word "caca". "Caca Caca!"

PAINT!

Six chalk Lines, pounce patterns for "1 to O", 1/2 pint maximum 1-Shot whole job.

20 minutes max each door at $60 a pop mimimum.

Nice profit for a job finished before morning tea!

Alicia, I vote for paint also, snap job, depends on how far apart are the doors and how hard the wind is blowing. Good Luck and Have Fun! Don

One more for the paint crowd. After removing vinyl off a van for almost a whole day yesterday and a whole gallon of acetone later....I VOTE PAINT!

I probably would use Vinyl, but, maybe you should paint the stripes, there's already Horizontal lines there as guides.. and use Vinyl for the Numbers.

I would use vinyl over paint 98% of the time.
This falls in the 2% for paint.

Paint, 6 doors,..$750
The patterns for digits can be used for more doors. After taping quickly with fineline, I would roll on paint and "tip off" with larger painter's brush.

What is paint?

By the way Pierre--awesome work in SignCraft! What kind of vinyl do you use? OK, I had to.

I'm sure Raymond will get his magazine one of these days.
