I am totally frustrated! I am trying to copy a folder from Corel X3 over to a 4.7 gig DVD+R.
The warning that keeps coming up says: Windows has encountered a problem when trying to copy this file....what do you want Windows to do?
I have plenty of space on the DVD, I also ran a virus scan on Windows and found it clean. I also ran a virus scan on the folder I am trying to copy...it came up clean. I also tried Windows help....not much help there....how can a novice understand where to look for that information anyway?
Any ideas? If you can help me on this...please give me your phone number and I will call you on my nickle.
I am really in a bind. This has to go out to the manufacturer in the form of a DVD so I can get the signs started.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Frustated here in Port Angeles...

I tried that and it still gives me the same message.
I wonder if my DVD writer needs some kind of formatting? I went to the DVD writer hard drive and checked troubleshooting....It said the device was working properly. I also checked on updating the drivers...but it had the proper drivers. I tried to copy another file to the DVD and came up with the same message. I tried to write to a CD and that worked fine.
Something wrong somewhere.

Jackson..you mentioned thst you had "plenty of room" on the DVD.
If you had burned stuff on it in the past, that is the problem.
Unless it is a DVD-RW it would have been "closed" when initially burned. Nothing else can be added.
Stick in a new DVD and try that.

Another tip Jackson... With my computer, I can not copy to a DVD using windows explorer like I can with a CD. In order to write files to a DVD, I need to use the appropriate DVD software that came with the burner.

FIrst off, I checked my settings on properties. It had no place to choose either a CD vs DVD. However, it did have a place to set the burn speed...so I set it at the speed indicated on the DVD. The DVD is a Maxell DVD+R 4.7 GB 16x 2 hour sp mode. I tried several other DVD's but still no luck.
The folder I am trying to copy is 204 MB or 214,647,702 bytes, 21 files and 1 folder. I also put it into a zip folder and it is 249,885 KB..... perhaps it is as Laura said...." are you sure it takes a DVD+R rather than a DVD-R. What is the difference?
My CD burner is a Plextor easy media creators (9.1) DVD writer. Less than a year old. Been working fine for CD's....
Sheesh!
Thank all of you for your help.

It finally copied over to a CD-R. You were right Jon...when things are stressed out, it is no time to get frustrated. Elaine....I have Nero CD burner program on my computer now...even it wouldn't work for DVD+R. It must be some configuration glitch.
I guess the burner got tired of my tirade upon itself and decided to accomodate me. Damn computers anyway.....I think I will go down and stroke my brushes.....they never give me this much grief. I will continue to research this problem and hopefully figure it out.
You folks rock!
Thanks again

It says that it will take 18x DVD+-R, 12x DVD-RAM, 8x DVD +-R DL, 8X DVD+RW, 6X DVD-RW, 16X DVD-ROM, 48X CD-R/ROM, 32X CD-RW
It is a Plextor PX-800A DVD Super Multi Drive.
I looked thru the properties and couldn't find out any memtion of which DVD formats are recommended for this burner. It says it will do the type I was trying to burn.

That is all greek to me... it didn't even list the model I have.....go figger.
I am just going to have to take it to the man and tell him to fix it. I can't figure it out. It makes no sense to me at all.
sigh.....

ARe you using a real cd/dvd burner software? Not the windows drag and drop burner.. You have to have a real specific software..
Yes windows has a burner software in it. But it is a buggy pile of junk.

Also, perhaps there's a single corrupt file in the X3 folder that won't go, so it fails the entire copying process.
I'd use Nero, or whatever software came with the DVD burner, not win XP's own drag & drop stuff.

I used the program NERO. It is a specific burn program. It failed also....same warning.
I finally got it to burn on 2 CD-R's using NERO.
Ian....I went thru and scanned the entire files one by one and found no corrupt files. Now I find that my other reader is not working. It reads my camera chip and floppy's....perhaps a motherboard glitch? I am taking the whole damned thing to the man and find out the problem. I am frustated to the max....
Thanks again to all of you for your kind help. I wish it would have solved my problemo...but alas....not to be.
