I am having problems with Letterheadfonts, I have bought from them for many years, have never shared a font.

Have had an online account, and been able to downlóad whenever. Last november I tried to login and download and had problems when I got to the checkout.

I called and Gillian put it through over the phone, I bought for about $260

I then got a mail from Chuck:

Henry...

I saw that you attempted to order recently. We are not
allowing orders from Sweden because of the piracy concerns I
have and Sweden not putting a stop to websites like
xxxxxxxxx. I apologize for this inconvenience. But it has
become a necessity of selling fonts.

However, if you let me know which fonts you need, I can
place the order manually and you can then download them from
your account.

Let me know,
Thanks,
--Chuck

Letterhead Fonts

That was great that I could order manually, the site he mentions had their servers raided here in 2006 and as far as I am aware are not based in Sweden, although they have over 20,000,000 users, our total poulation is about 8million here, in fact this week it is front page news here as the 4 that started that are in the high court here, so Sweden is fighting piracy, and having lived here 20 years know it to be a very fair and honest country.

I have tried to contact Chuck all week have stayed on extra at least 2 evenings to try and get some help. On their site they say they guarantee contact in an hour, I can't use that formula as my IP number blocks me from using those functions on his site.

I have been waiting here now an extra 2.5 hours for a reply its nearly 8.30pm, and I've been here since 7am and am getting very frustrated and quite fed up.

The fonts I wanted to buy were:
Signmaker
Tallington
Lakeside
Red Sable Script
Saddlemaker

I also asked for the updated Kona Bold which I have bought earlier on.

I have even tried to reregister using my gmail account with my full name in the mail address, not trying to hide anything but using my UK address, which I still have, but Chuck has put all the english counties down but not the Welsh and Scottish....last time I looked we in Wales were part of the UK and my old address is Powys the second largest county in the UK, anyway it didn't work, probably down to the swedish IP number??

I would be willing to pay the designers double for the fonts, but can't even do that as it seems they are contracted to LHF.

I feel that I personally am being punished for stuff I have nothing to do with, I'm not a swedish citizen, I have no right to vote here, I just live here.

Would like a telephone number to chuck as the 2 we have from last years correspondance no longer work.

661-726-1248
661-945-5450

I support his efforts 100% to protect his designers and his business, but as a customer, and a loyal one at that over several years, this has become more than a little frustrating.

Maybe if nobody has a current number somebody could point him in this direction.

I just want to buy fonts legally, have now sent over 6 mails, and requested a read receipt, I haven't recieved a thing from them.

Is this the way it works now in the letterhead movement???

Thanks Bill for you good thoughts, I read them before you edited your post.

I now know I have mailed the right address as several people that sell their fonts through Chuck have been in touch, and confirmed that.

I got this mail after my last order in november:

Hi Henry,

We want to take a moment to thank you for your recent purchase.

Without artists like you, who appreciate quality lettering, there would be
no Letterhead Fonts. So thank you for allowing us to continue our craft.

It is important to us that your needs are taken care of promptly. If you
need assistance with anything, please contact us right away.

Based on your purchase, we have hand-selected the following font for you as
something you might also be interested in:

We spend many painstaking hours creating original fonts for you. We take our
work very seriously. We also take any theft of our work very seriously.

As a reminder, each font downloaded from Letterhead Fonts contains the
original purchaser's information. You are responsible for the fonts licensed

If you appreciate the original work we are creating, please help us continue
by not sharing your fonts.

Now I feel I am like some sort of outcast for nothing I have done myself.....its a crazy situation to be in, I wonder if the tables were turned, and Chuck was sitting in his shop passionate about his work, but couldn't buy his fonts because of something that had absolutely nothing to do with him.

It was Chuck who said in my first post that he would fix it manually, its 4 days now of trying to just get contact, a response. How many of you would maintain your business and customers, if you took that approach of just ignoring people.

I asked for his number just so I could have a chat, am not after more than that. How many times do people misunderstand internet posts or email.

I am just like any of you trying to make an honest living, and support those that support me.

I really don't know what to do!!!

How many people would have persevered this much, I have spent hours this week on the phone with other sign people about this, stayed back at work here every night due to the 9 hour time difference, even said in my mail to Chuck, that I am here late evening just waiting on a response, and still nothing???

Many others would have just clicked and downloaded for free, and many that don't know the people personally behind the fonts probably do.

We are all passionate about what we do, protective of our efforts, and want to share our wealth of knowledge and experience.....what went wrong?

Sent about the 8th mail early this morning european time, its now 8.45pm and am still at work.

Anybody else had mail correspondence with Chuck the last few days, I thought it might be something with our mail, but we have recieved and sent to our customers all week.

I tried from a gmail account this morning to see if that made a difference, but its very quiet in Lancaster. [Smile]

Anybody else that might have better channels to him than me could ask him to give me the courtesy of a reply, or mail me a number not give it out publicly.

The mail from Chuck on the first post here offering to help me out manually was sent nov 18 2008, just after the last time I ordered.

I don't understand that mail, and then now complete silence from LHF.

How much more must a person do in the pursuit of buying fonts honestly???

Well, with the risk of sounding like a broken record, or flogging a dead horse!

I am pretty amazed, shocked, that NOBODY from LHF has contacted me although I have mailed EVERYDAY this week, a couple of months ago Chuck had written me a mail saying he was going to continue supplying fonts, although he had banned several countries as a whole. I could contact him and we would do it manually, what happened to keeping you word, I printed the mail above.

We have about 60 LHfonts, I have spent hours on this, during the week, have spoken with many Letterheads, that support Chuck 100% with his stance on piracy, but also feel in my case this has gone a step too far.

Some of his designers are willing to supply fonts but can't because they are contracted to LHF, some are friends, what a weird situation.

Am amazed, I think this is a really important issue, its OK because most of you aren't affected, but there are many that are, there are quite a few of us over here!

Many have echoed support on the phone, perhaps not prepared to comment here in case of upsetting Chuck.

Actually, I have kept myself very calm compared to how I can get, because that wouldn't help matters.

I am a long term established CUSTOMER of LHF that has done nothing to give them doubt in me, apart from living here in Sweden, as does Tom Kennedy who is a LHF designer, I bet he gets all his fonts, its ludicrous.

How much do you have to do to buy the fonts you want legally.

Nobody else got any opinions?

Do I get my 76 year old mother to register so I can get my fonts through her in the UK, or is Chuck going to threaten her with legal action for supplying her son.....its nuts the more you think about it all.....so I'll stop before I write something I regret.

Just edit and add:

I have spent on todays value just under $2000 dollars on fonts, as a customer, and a supposed Letterhead does that not merit at least a reply to my e-mail.

Henry, I feel for you. Sounds like a really screwed up situation that is not being handled properly.
LHF gets a lot of FREE advertising on the Letterville site. Many of the designers are residents. Your plea for help going unanswered like it has just seems wrong [I Don t Know] my two cents.

Russ, I didn't get your mail, but know why, we use info@signcraft.se here at work Barb just pointed out that on here its henry@signcraft.se which I get on my laptop for some reason. I haven't checked that today.

I am on my way out to the country for the weekend, its evening here already, will check later using mobile broadband.

Bobbie from phone calls I had yesterday with other letterheads he is aware, and I posted a link to this page as soon as I posted it, and sent it to his 09 mail address.

At the end of the day I just want to be able to buy my fonts like I could before....that's what its all about.

Have a good weekend and thanks for the comments.

This is very weird, unless there happened to be a personal crisis of some sort then you would expect at the very least a response... I'm sure there has to be a reason of some sort.

Good Luck Henry.

I stopped buying from LHF when he decided to punish everyone and increase the price of Duncan's font because some guy let it get copied. Don't get me wrong, he's welcome to charge what he wants and increase as he wants, but to publicly make everyone feel like they are being punished over something they had nothing to do with...... doesn't sit well with me and alot of others I've talked to...

Me too. I would gladly spend a LOT of money buying the lovely fonts that have been created by some very talented Letterheads... I know I'm ultimately the loser because of it, but I absolutely refuse to do business with LHR because of Chuck's business practices. And I know of a lot of other people who feel the same way.

To punish the honest people who are wanting to pay for fonts for transgressions of dishonest people who would never spend a dime with him anyway makes no sense.

I can understand him making the fonts piracy proof, but this all-out war... writing off whole countries and refusing to deal with long-time up-standing customers is ridiculous.

I know Chuck thinks he's doing right. And that is fine, everyone is entitled to running their business like they want.

Thanks for the phone number Russ, unfortunately its no longer in use.

Now I am up in the middle of nowhere, but I have a mobile internet connection.

I have checked ALL my mail addresses, and my new gmail, no contact at all from LHF, I have sent mails and copies of them to sales09@ and then LHF in full text .com, didn't want to put them in full here to protect from those programmes that trawl the net for e mail addresses, I tried support09@ etc etc, and I tried chuckdavis09@ etc etc, exactly the same addresses with 08 got bounced back, I also had it confirmed that I had the right address, from another letterhead, who said they swapped out everything at the begining of the year.

Chuck apparently has been in touch with others over this problem with me, so he is aware.

The thing that really pi$$es me off here is that, last november I ordered manually, after trying many times to log in, no explanation anywhere on his site, that suddenly all of us on his banned country list where no longer able to buy online, I called Gillian? I think when the phones worked to them, and she thought at first it was a card issue, but fixed it all.

A few days later, I got this mail from Chuck:

Henry...

I saw that you attempted to order recently. We are not
allowing orders from Sweden because of the piracy concerns I
have and Sweden not putting a stop to websites like
xxxxxxxxx. I apologize for this inconvenience. But it has
become a necessity of selling fonts.

place the order manually and you can then download them from
your account.

Thanks,
--Chuck

Chuck Davis
Letterhead Fonts

At the time I thought it was abit inconvenient with the 9 hour time difference, but OK, respect his need to protect his business.

Now this week I want to order more fonts, and suddenly Chuck has become invisible, although he had said above, all I had to do was contact them....how hard can that be!

I now feel like mailing every mail I have sent to Chuck, and LHF everyday this week, to ALL his designers so they see how LHF customer service works, with long term customers, and the frustration and time I have wasted this week.

I'm sorry for the publicity they have recieved this week on a site they don't support.

As I know many of his designers personally, and many others visit here, and many here are customers, I felt this was a really important issue to bring up.

This is not about piracy, but about upholding something he had said he would do in november, which was the same thing I would have done if it were a regular customer of mine that had spent nearly $2000 with me.

This thing of not even, an ackowledgement of my mail, or response anywhere is just not right.

Henry, I hope it works out for you- the unjust inconveniences and silence you've been subjected to are not excusable, in my opinion.

I've been able to buy fonts OK from LHF, but I don't think I've had a personal question-type email replied to- I just wondered if that was some kind of USA business practice or something that didn't make sense to me downunder. I was interested in creating some unique fonts some years ago and emailed him about that. Silence.

Other comments made here are all apt.

I guess the real question is 'why, what gives?'
anyone else (font creator) would possibly have given you those fonts as a gesture of goodwill for the inconveniences you've been subjected to.

Many friends here would possibly have 'given' you a copy of those fonts, free, too, to help get around the 'geographical' problem, even if this 'gift' is illegal, just to help you out of your dilemma.

Personally, I can't see any logic or justice in what you've had to go through to legitimately acquire the chance to use the fonts.

Well its a couple of weeks since I tried to contact Chuck at LHF.

I have spoken to quite a few people about this and recieved quite a few mails of support, I am really happy for the help people have tried to give.

The long and short though, is that NOBODY has replied to ANY mails from LHF, I found I could use their site contact formula with my laptop, and not from here at work, I have sent several that way too, and have had it confirmed automatically that somebody will get back to me as quickly as possible, and it then shows and confirms my current email address.

Nothing....I think when you have been a loyal customer that has spent nearly $2000 on fonts, I deserve at least a reply, and as we are all asked to keep to our word in not distributing/sharing fonts, and I have always done that, to help protect Chuck and his designers.

Why can't Chuck keep to his word, and supply me as promised in my first post on this subject.

Its not right that I should be punished for something I have nothing to do with????

At the moment I am so angry about being in this situation....but don't really know what to do.
