Don't know what my deal is, but I'm getting frustrated this morning. Received this file that a customer wants on a business card and can't get it to open.
I'm using CorelDraw X4. Customer's 'Graphic Designer' *choke* sent this to me in .AI and .EPS format. Errors out when importing.
Usually when this happens I can finagle around it, by trying things like pulling it up in Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro and then saving it back out as an .EPS or .PDF. Pulls up fine in Acrobat, and saves out fine, but still errors when loading in Coreldraw.
Could someone please take one of these files and save out to an older version of AI or EPS? Or maybe as a .CDR if you have Coreldraw? I'm actually going to be using Coreldraw X3 on the machine I'll be on today, but will be back on X4 later on..... so either way.
Here's what the logo should look like... I have a nice bitmap copy, but am looking for the vector format.... It's actually "Route 1" Carts... I thought it was "R-T Carts" when I first saw it.... don't look at me, it was designed by a teacher in the graphics department of a large college....
I tried opening in Illustrator 10, but I guess it was made by CS3, because it told me it was exported by a newer version.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Mark, thanks! The links to the 2 different formats that I received are under the JPG. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll download them to this machine and email them to you.

I tried several ways to "sneak" into it, cant you email them and tell them to save it back?

Bruce, since the designer works at a college, I haven't been allowed direct contact with him. Only through the customer, and I've swum upstream about 2 miles to get this far. (I guess he's not supposed to be doing work on the side.)
Glenn, I don't have the files on this machine I'm on... the links are in the first post, if you'd still like to give it a shot and see how it turns out.
Jamie, thanks for trying.
And Elaine, that is getting really close.... at least it's something to work with. Flattening some of the transparencies changed the color a little, but I can probably work with it now and get it back pretty close. THANKS!

Hey Jon, it might be too late but I sent you an email about 20 mins ago with an ai 10 file of it. Seems to work, and Corel should be able to import it fine. Worth a try I guess.

Ah...I'm blind. Sorry I missed the links Jon.
The problem is the gradient technique he used on the flame and the "1". Its proprietary to Adobe Illustrator CS-whatever. Corel isn't able to recognize it or make use of it.
Since its just for a business card, my suggestion is to convert it to a hi-res JPG or PSD with a transparent background and import it into Corel. Don't make it any harder on yourself than you have to.
The other option is to import the vectors and recreate the gradients using the blend and warp tools. It'll take more time and effort but you'll have something scalable that you can use for other future projects for your client.

Glenn, he's wanting the background of the card black... so I'm changing on the colors a little to make it work. (Custom Carts, etc.) He is also wanting a bunch of other stuff... like digitally printed decals, etc...
The one Elaine sent me looks good and is going to work, I believe. However, if it gives me any trouble, I'll do like you suggest.
Thanks again, everyone.

Haha... Ian.. goes to show how differently some of us and our customers think. When I first saw the logo I went "Oh NO!" but the customer is totally in love with it. I laid it out on a black card with his info and showed it to him and he said about 5 times.... "MAN, doesn't that logo look AWESOME on the black? I LOVE IT." He thinks the designer hit it out of the park with it...
I did talk him into letting me put a period after the "RT", at least. I told him I didn't think anyone would even get the "Route 1" thing without it.
